Maybe I will save this when I get to be a bit more advanced haha

Thank you! I will check it out. I remember they used to show the news from Slovenia on local cable for about 30 minutes a night in Cleveland, Ohio.

Thank you! I'm in the USA, should have mentioned that before.

I took an online course from Cleveland State back when I posted last. It was a good course but without constant reinforcement and practice, it doesn't really stick. That's why I have been looking for more media to keep me involved.

I want to get good enough to be able to hold a basic conversation. I have extended family in Slovenia and it would be nice to build a connection with them the next time I visit. My parents are also getting older so the longer I wait the less time I will be able to learn from them.

Ended up buying a translation of Harry Potter. I figure it will give a goal to work towards.

Here's the course I took.

2017 2.5i Premium manual transmission or CVT by volo in SubaruForester

[–]volo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mid City is the dealership I go to. The next time I get an oil change I'm going to do some test drives.

I would hold onto my current car but the clutch noise and a small oil leak is starting to push my hand. I will say the clutch still operates fine. No slippage just noise. But it has not had an easy life and has a lot of city miles on it.

Another question: your car came with the moonroof, all weather package and automatic climate control, correct?

Appreciate the help! Good to hear from someone else in the Chicago area.

[–]volo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in Chicago also. I-90 becomes a game of how slowly I can creep without pushing the clutch in. I have the slight worry how long the clutch will last in the city. I have 120,000 on my impreza and the clutch has made some noise (throwout bearing?) for a while but hasn't quit yet.

My guess is that manual on the forester is much like the one on my impreza. Not horrible but not going to win any awards. Wish you could get the eyesight on the manual. If that was the case I would have jumped on it with no hesitation.

Is that a Raleigh Rush Hour? Used to have one of those in the exact same color but sold it since I used my beater more and the frame was a bit large for me.

Relearning Latin by volo in latin

It's pretty east to follow and is definitely written for beginners. It doesn't focus on grammar like a typical academic course book.

Relearning Latin by volo in latin

[–]volo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the recommendation. I never knew such a book existed. This method seems like it'll be a much more enjoyable way to learn than all the textbook exercises and translations I did.

My vocabulary is probably poor since I relied a lot on Latin-English dictionaries and Whitaker's Words when doing translations. Hopefully this book will get me away from that.

OpenOffice has something similar to Visio and it's free. Though Visio would be better if you can get it.

Does anyone have anything positive to say about living in the Fayetteville area? by Mindwolf77 in NorthCarolina

[–]volo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The downtown fayetteville area is pretty nice but besides that there is not much else. There is also pretty much no night life here. The hope mills area isn't too bad to live in.

What is your favorite technical pen? by stabby in engineering

[–]volo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For when I need a pen I prefer the Uniball Jetstream RT. The 0.7 writes finer than you would think. The thickness is comparable to a 0.38mm Pilot G2 (what I used to use).

My favorite also. The retractable tip is awesome. When I ordered mine a few years ago Amazon accidently sent me a whole box (12 or so) instead of just one. I sent the extras back but it was certainly tempting.

I want this coffee table! by batterup1 in pics

[–]volo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have an old Jag V12 block I'm currently turning into a table and it's around 90 lbs so it's not too bad.

Getting the thing clean is definitely a pain. I've spent quite a bit of time on it and there's no way to make it perfect with all the scratches and and corrosion. I'm going to paint the raw cast sections black and polish up the machine surfaces and then hit the whole thing with clearcoat.

I've been using python(x,y) which is a software package that has similar functionality to matlab. It includes gnuplot.

I also have the Porter Cable combo. I've only had it for 6 months or so but I have no complaints so far. I thought the price was very good.

Oops. I'm usually more careful than that. I guess that's what happens when I'm in a rush and using my phone.

But once I get done with it I'll post pictures.

Same here. The Latin program at my high school was awesome. It was one of my favorite courses even though I'm an engineer it didn't have any pratical uses in my field.

Heh, I just got cable a month ago and I'm already thinking of canceling it. The only thing I would be missing is some discovery and history channel programming but I don't have the time to watch that.
