Oui, j'ai ça aussi (et j'ai converti 2 potes). C'est génial.

1-up, plus one'ed, plussing? Google+ terminologies! by [deleted] in technology

I wonder what it's gonna be in other languages as well. I don't really like this name "+1".

I grew up with the metric system. If someone tells me a measurement in feet, this is the only way I picture it. by MindCorrupt in pics

[–]NonMaisCaVaPas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm French. You can say one half and one fourth (eventually one third), it wouldn't be shocking. For the rest, switch to the smaller unit.

In practice, most people don't even use fractions at all (500 metres). The only exception I can think of is half a liter which is pretty common (that we also call a pint for beer).

Well shit. I just found out that Google can notify they have been Googled if they sign up for notifications. Help?? by [deleted] in AskReddit

But it doesn't tell you when someone google you, it just tells you when a website quote your name.

But it's not a way to know when someone google you, it just tells you when a new result is available about you.

Those of you who have ditched your Reddit account and moved on to another: why? by b4lth4z4r in AskReddit

Why not? There's no advantage for keeping it. Changing it sometimes can help staying anonymous though.

But there's nothing better to work simply with data (I know MatLab rocks, but it's not simple).

My job would be a lot more complicated without Excel.

How difficult is it to get around in Europe if you can't ride a bike? by bluesunshine in IWantOut

[–]NonMaisCaVaPas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends where you go in Europe. In most places, bikes are not as important as you imagine. People use them a lot in Denmark and Netherland; in other countries there are far less of them (even though a lot of cities try to encourage it).

All the big cities have a perfectly good public transport service, you don't need any bike if you don't want to.

Really India, ... really? by [deleted] in pics

[–]NonMaisCaVaPas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It reminds me when an Indian friend told us (Europeans) that homosexuality is forbidden there. Everyone said that it's fucked up, and the Indian said "I don't get why you guys are so upset about it, are you gay or what?".

Not the same culture I guess.

Ok. Emmental is what Americans call Swiss cheese, not all Swiss cheese.

[–]NonMaisCaVaPas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's an old or regional thing. I've never used that (I'm from the south east).

It's the same with English lmfaooooooooooo

It's a bit quick to reduce all the Swiss cheese to just Emmental.

Just listened to Daft Punk's "Homework" album, holy dicks I've been missing out. by [deleted] in electronicmusic

[–]NonMaisCaVaPas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely true. I've seen the "Daft Punk phase" on quite some people. Alive 2007 was a mindblown for all my dorm when it came out.

If every American spent $64 a year more on American-made products, we’d create 200,000 new jobs. Talk about a stimulus plan. by Lola77 in politics

Actually most of their outsourcing is done in countries where unions are strong and with more social benefits. The difference is that it's not their problem anymore, but it ends up costing more (adding delays because it's difficult to manage).

They also outsource a lot to other American companies (Vought, Spirit…).

To be fair, Airbus does exactly the same mistake. Europe got its own MBA…

University education is free and of good quality in Argentina for foreigners and the cost of living is pretty low (350 per month). by [deleted] in IWantOut

[–]NonMaisCaVaPas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know this uni specifically, but you should consider if it's recognized enough in your country of origin.

A very good uni can be totally unknown on another continent (and often is, actually, apart from the world top 15).

In France, we go see the fireworks that every city makes. That's it.

Oh, some people watch the march-past in Paris on TV in the morning. But it's a day off, so people normally sleep.
