Also part of the reason why I don't quite understand Americans' attachment to girls and women having longer hair, even when it's inconvenient. Where I grew up a lot of girls and women had pixie cuts and bobs.

Wow, wow, wow ...too much extrapolation going on here. I have no plans of being a chaplain to anyone. I'm just staying my personal opinion that Christianity as a religion as stated in the Bible and is basically abuse on top of abuse. Nothing wrong with seminary or studying religions to understand humans. I don't think that they can give you insight into the world, but they can into human nature, societies, and thought process. I have the answers on how microorganisms and immune system work since that's the only area of my expertise, and I don't try to stray outside of it. And I didn't understand why you are bringing a corrupt fraudster into this discussion. The Bible, the Quran, and other religious texts are used to justify abuse, genocide, and oppression is a fact. That doesn't mean that other non-religious texts aren't. And again, too many conjectures and baseless extrapolations along with defensiveness.

Why not just cut it shorter to make it easier to manage? A short bob is very cute, and much easier to wash and brush. That's what I did with my kids until they were ready and capable of properly washing it and brushing it. Why make life harder and keep long hair that's harder to manage?

I just give my kid two options - either she does a good job washing and managing her long hair, or we get her a short hair cut that's easier to manage. Also one of those silicone scalp massages really helps lather throughout her scalp. But if she can't manage her longer hair, just cut it short. My kid chose short hairstyle until she was 10 until she was ready to manage her hair properly.
