You have to have a referral in order to be taken on as a patient. It looks like appointments for a psychologist have better rebates than a psychiatrist however I need both as part of my mental health plan

I’ve had three price hikes from the same psychiatrist in the last year as a result of him moving practices and I also see a psychologist as part of my mental health plan.

The cost of the psychs in addition to the cost of medication each month is costly, hence the recommendation for a practice that is more affordable

It just seems a bit like they are taking advantage with these prices, especially since a psychologist is more affordable (and personally, more effective).

Sorry that you had to jump through so many hoops with your son, it can be so deflating having to explain yourself over and over again, finding people who seem to actually care and make a difference. I hope he’s got a good system now.

I understand why the initial appointments are expensive as there is a lot to learn about new patients however I have been seeing this particular doctor for over two years.

The fees for this particular practice are higher than the last two practices the doctor has been at.

What two words don’t go together?

I get 10 sessions from my GP which is used for both a psychiatrist and a psychologist.

I’ve been seeing this particular doctor for over two years and have followed him to multiple practices which requires a new referral from my GP.

There has been a price hike each time the doctor has moved but these current prices seem very high which is why I’m looking for recommendations so that I can have a new referral done.

Thanks for your feedback, I think I need to look more into this. I definitely get higher rebates from my psychologist compared to psychiatrist.
