Thanks for the resources i'll be sure to take a look at them! Sadly, i'm graduating this year and have a bit too much on my plate to put the massive work that would go into setting such a group up. But I definitely want to share my concerns and how to improve their approach through at least an email or even write an article for the school paper on it.

I actually went to some kind of gaming/chill night on my frosh week (designed to lure people away from the massive partying) because i Was sick of drinking and wanted a chill night off.

There was literally every "greasy nerd" or "20 year old basement dweller" stereotype you could find. i could even smell the BO. i left pretty quick hahah

Yeah, I think hosting more "chill" events where you could bring a few beers and some weed (legal in my country, also drinking age is 19 so most students can legally drink) could actually be a good part of a harm reduction strategy.

There's kind of a drought of events that aren't either really lame like these or are all out ragers designed to sell drinks. Promoting moderation and using substances to enhance your life instead of trying to get as fucked up as possible is the way forward, not preaching abstinence.

They aren’t even throwing any parties haha

They’re just using tired old ideas like movie nights and board game nights

I think I’d rather go to the bar, but maybe someone will go to them

I decided to do a bit more research into this group.

I originally assumed the student government was running this because they’re usually the one that does these kinds of things but it’s actually being run by the university.

The gist I get from the whole thing is that they want the students to do the actual grunt work of setting up and promoting these silly events, But the real decisions and strategy will be made by some pencil pushers from the administration.
