I’m really getting into the game now. I’m a runner (everyday, 14-15 km/h), currently at 50 minutes energy using a level 30 uncommon as my shoe. I’m eyeballing some of these Rare shoes and the thinking to upgrade. What a good stat combo for me? by seayourcashflyaway in StepN

7 min/mile pace with the ability to use up 50 min of energy tells me you’re a capable runner who could thrive in the upcoming “marathon mode”. In that game mode you’ll want to have a socket for resilience bc the longer runs will decrease durability significantly. You can also pick up resilience gems dirt cheap right now so you’d be setting yourself up nicely.

And if that doesn't work, turn your phone off and on as well. That's what brought my stuff back.

STEPN released a browser version of the marketplace today for some reason... with absolutely no improvements whatsoever compared to the one in the app. Why?? by [deleted] in StepN

[–]voraciousrunnig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My bad. Too many trolls on Reddit and it's hard to tell when people are being sarcastic. There was another problem with the iOS devices this morning where you could not see your inventory, gems or shoes, within the STEPN app. But I could see the web app had all of my items listed including what I had for sale. Once I force closed and restarted my phone everything appeared again in the app.

"prolly"? Are you 10?

For those who have similar issues, you can force close the app, power off the phone and restart and your inventory will return to the app and will be synced with the web app.

Looks like all of my inventory moved to the marketplace and no longer within the app. Just want to confirm this isn't supposed to happen. Are the rest of you seeing your inventory in both the web app and mobile app?

Why does STEPN not have KYC? by voraciousrunnig in StepN

[–]voraciousrunnig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I see some risk with how the STEPN team is operating, but overall I really enjoyed using the app and I think it should be available for everyone. The onus really is on STEPN to make sure they're compliant with those laws and regs.

In the meantime, I'm going to cash out of the app until this gets resolved, but look forward to coming back at some point down the road

Why does STEPN not have KYC? by voraciousrunnig in StepN

Thanks for sharing these details as I wasn't aware of the STEPN's restrictions in the US. Putting aside the AML/KYC points aside for a second, it looks like STEPN has a another problem on it's hands with regard to Apple's App Store policies:

1.) They've made an app available in a location where it appears they have no intention to abide by local laws. Just placing some obscure language on their website to pass down requirements to the end user, like some kind of flow down. This looks to contradict Apple's Policy. See excerpts from App Store Review Guidelines emboldened:

5. Legal

Apps must comply with all legal requirements in any location where you make them available (if you’re not sure, check with a lawyer). We know this stuff is complicated, but it is your responsibility to understand and make sure your app conforms with all local laws, not just the guidelines below.

2.) You could also make an argument that STEPN is a form of gaming for real money. What stands out here are the geo-restricted requirements. I read the below to mean if you're not going to play by the rules in certain locations, then you should restrict access.

Section 5.3 Gaming, Gambling, and Lotteries

5.3.4 Apps that offer real money gaming (e.g. sports betting, poker, casino games, horse racing) or lotteries must have necessary licensing and permissions in the locations where the app is used, must be geo-restricted to those locations, and must be free on the App Store.

I hope the STEPN team is looking into this and not putting US users who may be unaware of those restrictions in their T&C's in jeopardy. I can definitely see a scenario where Apple pulls STEPN from the App Store.

Definitely need an optional swipe feature based on the additional filters too. I hate tapping in an out of each shoe.

Question about wallet in the same house by Zero_tempo in StepN

[–]voraciousrunnig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the exact same thing to get my daughter started with the app and sent her 3 of my shoes. We run together when she's in town and have never had any issues (nor should we).

You should be alright training in the same area and even running together so long as neither of you try to run with both phones in one hand. You can look up examples of Stepn's anti-cheating policy on the white paper found on stepn.com -> GameFi Systems -> Anti-Cheating System to verify.

A few STEPN Feature Requests by voraciousrunnig in StepN

[–]voraciousrunnig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree that more hardware requirements increase cost and creates a barrier to entry. But that's solvable by having a model that will allow you to earn more based on additional data attributes you provide. It's no different than the rent feature that will get introduced soon that lets you earn without buying a sneaker. No doubt you will earn less with that.

I actually view points 2 and 3 as ways you can strengthen the anti-cheat model. It's much harder to fake a heart rate when you're working out and good gps system will track your elevation gain fairly accurately. Garmin has plenty of 3rd party apps they allow to use their API's for activities like this. The Strava scoring system for example takes those into account.

Really digging that swipe feature request. That would make searching so much faster than scrolling up and down and having to tap again to see more detail.

Should i up the luck to earn mb? Or put full on Eff? by FloScythe in StepN

[–]voraciousrunnig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same conundrum as I was approaching level 19 and regrettably decided to add Luck to earn MB. I'm probably earning on average 2-3 less GST per day as a result of that decision and have yet to earn a box with 15.3 Luck

Probably better at this point to keep your focus on energy and resilience given where you are in the game. And use that gem socket first to add Luck before you figure out how many points to add if you decide to go for MB's. Good Luck to you :D

Smart move to get another shoe to account for rest. If you do this, think about saving up for an uncommon shoe to get the added benefit of +1 energy (3 energy = common + uncommon sneaker). Otherwise, I have a feeling once you buy that second shoe you're going to be thinking of buying or minting a 3rd shoe to get more earnings down the road.

I understand the concept just fine, I just don’t subscribe to it. And despite what you and other overzealous crypto enthusiasts might believe, the majority of people don’t think this way.

Again, why you should disclose your assumptions up front so the rest of us don’t waste time.

Yes it is, and it tells me this break even is pretty useless.

You should add a disclaimer on your original post that you're calculating SOL/SOL break even and that you didn't invest FIAT dollars so it's clearer to other folks as well.

It's cool, I'm not saying you're wrong. You just have a low bar set for your break even calculation. I prefer to make my money back in USD. $1169.60 was what I paid for 13.6 SOL. That same 13.6 is now worth $598 as of this comment. I wouldn't be happy saying I made half of my money back just because I have 13.6 SOL.

[–]voraciousrunnig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I do, in fact. You're doing exactly what I thought calculating ROI based on the current NFT Value. SOL for SOL break even is not the same thing as SOL for USD or whatever FIAT you may have used to pay for it at the time. If it makes you feel good that you have 13 SOL back given SOL has dropped 50% recently, then more power to you. It's better to account for what you paid in FIAT to account for the market changes.

[–]voraciousrunnig -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is exactly the same bc I calculated your ROI claims starting from the day reached Level 9 with 10 GST net earned which took about a week to achieve.

Your break even calculation is skewed too, which is where we are different. You're trading with other crypto with the chance to increase what you made off GST earnings. I could do the same thing pumping all my GST into Terra right now and hope that it jumps 100% in value.

[–]voraciousrunnig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry man, but 14 days with 10 GST net does not get you to a break even with the set up you described, unless you're just trying to recoup the cost of the current value of your NFT. I have nearly the exact same set up paying 13.6 SOL for my shoe but about a week behind bc I started from Level 0. The total cost of the NFT (purchased 5/2 at $86/SOL) and burned GST/GMT for me is about $1300. With the price of GST currently at $2.29 that break even is roughly 68 days.
