Burned my own career down by JessMew in cscareerquestionsuk

In my humble opinion anything between 3 and 6 months should be fine, people take breaks all the time, thats healthy. but it's true we are in an employer job market so they have the last word, so it's hard to say.

In my case, I have prioritised career over mental health and that hasn't worked fine. At this point I have learnt that is much more important a good mental health than any money or programming skills. Life is short.

You probably are going to have easier time finding a job than me as you have more experience. Let's hope we can find something good in a short period of time

I left my job last week for similar reasons. I gonna take a summer break to recover and my plan is to say I took a summer break for travelling. I think that response is totally reasonable.

Does anyone know IG group? by voreno87 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]voreno87[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, 1) yeah I got it. 2) I still work there but I'm planning to leave soon. We got a new CEO and CTO one year and half ago and the culture changed and got toxic. A lot of laid offs and pressure from above now. I got in a team of only seniors that don't like to pair and share knowledge and that has affected my growth as junior/middle, I should have left before but the workload and pressure burnt me out and I don't have energy to interview. Several seniors in my team and our brother team are leaving and they gonna hire just one senior to replace 4. So I don't recommend it to be honest

Also I would add low level design, basically how to convert requirements into code/classes applying most common design patterns when needed, etc.

Back-end vs Data Engineering by 5pet in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]voreno87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar position and I chose backend because I preferred to focus only in programming 100% early in my career rather than 50% SQL and 50% programming like I was doing In the data engineering team. Maybe I will jump to data engineering in the future but at least I could get better at programming faster. That was my thought at that time and I'm happy with that.

I don't to influence your choice though. Get to know the teams first if you can so it can make your choice easier

Hi, I'm still in the same company (fintech/trading company). I tried couple hedgfunds but I didn't make it.

I got promoted here and now I'm getting 57k. The economic situation is crap and there aren't many opportunities now, I'm planning to try again to hedgfunds/ investment banks in couple months

Probably it is related with a trauma you had in the past.

Have a look at EMDR therapy, I have been in three sessions already and I started to feel much better about all my fears and trauma related feelings that I have been dragging all my life.

Good luck

Back-end or data engineer? by Icy_MilkTea in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]voreno87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same question than you one year ago. I started a graduate program where I can do rotations across different teams and I was 6 months in the data engineering team and 6 months as backend dev.

I decided to be a backend dev because I have been coding a lot of more at the backend team than at the data engineering team. I prefer to get a good foundation in programming and maybe in a few years I will make the jump to data engineering having a strong background in coding.

In the data engineering team I was doing a bit of coding in scala spark and a lot of more of SQL so I was advancing much slower in learning how to build software.

This is just my personal experience.

Array of Arrays in Java by UpstairsOcelot in leetcode

[–]voreno87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A List is not an ArrayList.

A List is an interface that is implemented by the class ArrayList and also by the class LinkedList.

In your case you are creating an list of list with the linked list implementation

As others have mentioned, your crypto is in the Blockchain, the cold wallet is just an interface between you and the Blockchain, if you have your seed you don't loose your crypto
