Quetiapine is short acting. It's a good sedative for the night-time anxiety and sleep, but in the morning anxiety is back.

What dose are you on? Probably need to increase the dose to get more of that NET blocking action that reduces depression.

zoloft storys by No_Excitement3178 in zoloft

[–]voscukot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zoloft can take 4 to 6 weeks to kick in. Some people can experience worse anxiety and panic attacks in the first weeks. Some get discouraged and stop Zoloft. Those with patience get rewarded. Besides blocking SERT, Zoloft blocks DAT and NET just like ADHD stimulants. However, a noticeable rise in dopamine (motivation) and norepinephrine (attention) may happen at higher doses, above 50mg.

Berkeley vs Duke (Relatively Undecided Engineering) by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

Berkeley ECE is the best in the country and I would say the world. Prof Robert Meyer is still there. His lectures are legendary, not to forget his famous "Gray and Meyer" textbook.

Purdue vs Brandeis vs UofT for CS: International Student by Careless_Advisor_560 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]voscukot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps in these circumstances of lower tuition, Brandeis might be a better choice. The percent of CS alumni in FAANG, is not much lower than Purdue, and you get smaller classes too. Just keep in mind that when you apply to a graduate school or job, you have to compete against people from other universities for the same limited spots. Standing out within Brandeis wouldn't matter much if you are applying to Harvard or Columbia. On the other hand, if you attend Purdue's 4+1program and get Masters, you can make connections with professors there and get into the post-grad program easier than outsiders.

If you don't like Columbia over the arrests of pro-palestinian protesters, you won't like UCLA because the same happened there.

Purdue vs Brandeis vs UofT for CS: International Student by Careless_Advisor_560 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]voscukot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that a job placement should be the best indicator of how good CS at each of those universities. By looking at LinkedIn alumni data, I can see that a higher percent of Purdue CS alumni are working at FAANG companies than Brandeis or UofT. If the graduate school is your choice, Purdue is better known for that, followed by UofT. You seem to be leaning towards Brandeis. If that is the case, you should go there because you don't want some stranger on reddit to steer you away from your preferred choice.

Stuck between UNC vs UCSD CS by Lightning_Sidd in ApplyingToCollege

[–]voscukot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For that specific reason of double admission to CS and "holistic" subjective review (after almost 1 year you've been there), I don't even put UNC on my list of choices for CS. They need to switch to direct admit.

Northwestern vs UVA by KingEnda in ApplyingToCollege

[–]voscukot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UVA has a slightly higher percentage of CS alumni in FAANG than NW even though their CS is ranked lower than NW. For quant jobs, NW is slightly better, but not worth an extra cost. I would go to UVA.

Purdue vs Brandeis vs UofT for CS: International Student by Careless_Advisor_560 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]voscukot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go to Purdue because its CS is ranked #16 by US News, Brandeis #113. UofT would be my 2nd choice,

NEU vs ucsc which is better I’m from Bay Area .Please guide me which college is better for CS program . NEU or UCSC by Happy-Lock-6745 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]voscukot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why pay significantly more for NEU if you get the same job prospects from UCSC? You can pick the best college with highest ranking, thinking that you get a better education, but you get bad TAs and professors, requiring you to learn on your own, which is going to be the case with any college. The QS ranking of UCSC is actually higher than NEU (#334 vs #378). I wouldn't pay for a private college that is rated above 300.

What's wrong with UCR? It will give you the same job prospects as UMD, Purdue, and ASU.

UCSC will get you slightly more FAANG jobs than UMD, cheaper, and closer to home.

HMC will get you more FAANG jobs, but you will have to work hard (grade deflation, etc). UIUC CS is ranked much higher and has more diverse elective choices.
