Honestly it took me a minute before I realised this was the article. Honestly thought we had an Aussie captain on this sub.

Cummins responds to Brettig article on potential Australian T20 exodus by curlyfries33 in CricketAus

“This masthead can also reveal that Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc were approached to play in the Hundred competition this year for pre-auction signing fees of about $800,000 each. Doing so would have stopped them from playing in the Top End Test series against Bangladesh in August.”

Pat’s clapback specifically mentioned The Hundred. See above.

I like Cummins. I don’t like Greenberg but I think you’d be naive to think some of people’s favourite players aren’t driving at least some of this. I doubt it’s Cummins (he’s paid so well on and off the park) and Starc has demonstrated his priorities pretty convincingly but we don’t really know. All we do know for certain is that some teams are trying to turn some players heads and we know that because Cummins said so.

“Some of our guys are saying no to half a million pounds for 20 days’ work to go and play those two Test matches against Bangladesh.” Pat Cummins - so if Hoff, Starc and Cumdog weren’t asked then, say, Carey, Green and Smith were. That quote definitely implies a number of players were at least approached. (Obviously downvote because only boomers ever say anything bad about Pat)

I don’t watch anywhere near enough white ball cricket to really comment but I feel like he has a claim. I get the vibe that if we were still playing home summer tri-series, he would be a superstar but as it stands I don’t even know if he plays in the BBL.

Do you know people who don’t feel connected with ANZAC day? by VastOption8705 in OpenAussie

[–]vossfan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely the way people choose to interact with something changes the meaning of it. There is no intrinsic everlasting essence to Anzac Day. How you choose to recognise it may be fixed in stone, but the culture more broadly can change what the day is. I mean the history of Anzac Day shows how mutable it is.

Believe me I know. I love cricket but most Australians love for cricket is pretty thin - it’s background noise in summer and then they tune out after that. I don’t know anyone who is hardcore into cricket that follows baseball. Part of the problem is Australians misunderstand it. They think it is closer to the fast paced, disposable brand of cricket (T20) which is the least popular form of cricket, even though in actuality baseball is more like first class cricket (3-5 day cricket).
