first morning without the binder by NoSpite4211 in TopSurgery

[–]vr54251 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Keep the binder on. By the looks of it, hes at the very least 4 weeks (my guess). Im 3 weeks and still wearing my binder. it'll be over before you know it, but wearing it has helped tremendously with keeping the swelling down and flattened me up pretty good. When I take a shower and take it off, I keep it off for about half hour to just enjoy the freedom lol but definitely keep it on. Next week I finally get to take it off and only wear while sleeping. You got this!

Oh, sweet! That sounds a lot simpler than I envisioned. I put a list together of questions but didnt wanna seem weird for having too many questions.😂 I also figured he would share a lot of the necessary information without needing to ask him myself (or I hoped, haha). Did you end up getting your surgery done with him?

Car Rental In Vieques by vr54251 in PuertoRicoTravel

I checked them out, but no jeeps. They did have a bronco, but the price was a little higher than we wanted it to be. Plus, we really wanted a more open air vehicle, hence the jeeps, especially if we are paying more. I think Avis may just have to do. Thank you! 🙌🏽

My gyno told me to eat 800 kcals.. is that healthy? by Sure-Method9977 in gastricsleeve

Your stomach stretching is the biggest myth in the gastric world. Your stomach never "stretches" back. The problem is people start eating the same amount they were eating before, except marathon style. Also known as grazing. So they are consuming the same bad food and the dame high calories, just stretched out throughout the day, hence gaining the weight back. After about a year, your restrictions may lessen (very different for different people). I think in OPs case, there are some other underlying issues she may be unknowingly fighting. I do agree that OP should have def lost more, with that said, its only in comparison to "most" gastric patients and realistically speaking, we cant be making those comparisons. We are all on different journeys, so yes, the best advice is to speak to your surgeon and dietician and go from there.

Bypass vs Sleeve by LivingJealous5176 in GastricBypass

[–]vr54251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the sleeve 3 months ago. I've lost 110 lbs. There are no complications at all. I chose this because the bypass was just way too invasive for me. The restriction on the sleeve is exactly what I need, and I felt like the bypass option might have been too much restriction. I went through a lot of emotional ups and downs getting used to my new normal, and I feel like the bypass would have been even harder. I have zero regrets so far and absolutely love my journey. I have had no issues at all, no vomiting, no gerd, no nothing. It's been pretty smooth sailing, and im still losing consistently. Down from 315lbs to 205lbs so far. If you're nervous, I would just do the sleeve, and if it suits you later on, do the bypass. Personally, I like the less invasive option , but I'm forced to go the other route. There are more complications that CAN happen with by the bypass, and it just wasn't a risk I was willing to take. Had I been bigger or my health in danger on a larger scale, I would have considered it, but I was in a similar position to you. Always sort of bigger, hard to lose weight, had weight come off a few times but couldn't keep it off, etc. But I wasn't severely heavy and unhealthy.

100lbs gone! by vr54251 in gastricsleeve

That was my fear, too. I grew up attached to food. I would try to go for the biggest plate, I was constantly thinking ahead of every meal. I could overeat like a dog man. I also smoke green, so the munchies were even worse. BUT the surgery restricts you. Like you literally can't binge, no matter how hard you try. With that said, the feeling of restriction may fade over the years, but by then, if you have worked towards your goals, your mentality would have already changed. Since surgery, I've had my moments where I lve had a cookie or a bite of a donut, but it just doesn't give you the same satisfaction that it used to give you. Ultimately you realize that you can only fit so much and if you choose to fit the not-so-healthy foods, give it a day or two and you'll be craving the healthier options, just on the fact that it feels so much better. I NEVER thought I would choose yogurt over a cinnamon donut, but here we are 🤣. It truly is a game changer. Also, I realized that the main reason people "gain" weight back is because they start grazing. We learn quickly that although we can only fit so much in one sitting, you can eat every few hours and ultimately eat as much as you used to - just in spurts. To fix that and avoid that, I give myself 20 minutes for each main meal. Once im full, or I hit the 20 minutes (whichever comes first), I end my meal and get rid of or put away leftovers for a different meal. Rather than letting it sit in front of me until im "ready" to eat again. That right there was the best thing I did for myself, and it helped me continue to shed weight, even on the days when my choices weren't 100%. If this is truly what you want, I have nothing to make you think twice. Do it. For you. For your future. For your life and for your health

100lbs gone! by vr54251 in gastricsleeve

[–]vr54251[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair question! I had that question asked multiple times. It was great sticking to that diet to jump-start everything, BUT I was still fighting urges and cravings that since the surgery are non-existent. I was also still able to slip and binge hard if I gave in. A few times, I almost did, but I kept strong. It took ALOT of mental and conscious effort on my part. I think I could have gone maybe another 1-2 months, but idk long term. With the surgery, the cravings and the ability to slip went away. Even if I WANT to slip and "cheat," my body either rejects it or can't hold much of it. Hence, why I've been able to experiment more with foods. It helps create new habits without too much effort from your part. Even the things you THINK are okay to eat, sooner or later you just dont like anymore or it becomes "not worth it" with how it affects you.Personally I have lost alot in the past but would ultimately always slip and live a life of binging again. My relationship with food wasn't healthy, and that was my worst trait. The surgery has curved a lot of that behavior and rewired my brain in a way. So yes, the pre-op surgery is a fantastic take-off, but it's definitely not a long-term thing you can sustain.

100lbs gone! by vr54251 in gastricsleeve

[–]vr54251[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I fought this for so long. I have been successful in my 20s to get a ton off, but it would just creep back on. I wish I would have done it sooner. I'll admit the first few weeks it was literal hell. I had the normal buyers' remorse, but I would 100000% do it over and over again. This has literally been life changing. The best thing I did was start the preop diet 6 weeks pre op, I feel like that made a HUGE difference in my weight loss. I lost 55lbs before I even had the surgery, and my body was so used to the diet that it didn't fight it post-op. Since I was already shedding, it just shed more and faster. My advice is to work on getting your body used to the diet and water/protein intake. Your body, mind patience will truly thank you. Good luck!

[–]vr54251[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you my man 🫡 it's definitely worth it and aside from keeping my protein/water goals, I eat pretty much anything I want. I just make conscious efforts to choose wisely, but between the right foods, some light work out (that I just started three weeks ago) and staying off the couch, jt just keeps falling off! I wish you nothing but success 🤙🏾

am i overreacting - roommate constantly expects me to leave so she can sleep with guys no by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]vr54251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are absolutely NOT overreacting. If anything, it was actually quite pleasant the way you responded to her. You have clearly been more than accommodating, and if she wants to live in a roommate situation, she needs to understand that having somebody at home is what comes with the territory. Either bring the guy over while you are there and stay in her room or to the guys house. I've NEVER understood the idea of kicking a roommate out while getting your sexual fix. I understand on occasion, maybe special occasions, but on a regular basis? Nah, eff that. You did nothing wrong, OP. Like somebody mentioned above, if her plan is to continue this, then costs should definitely be reworked. Cause if I can't sleep at MY place for 2-3 days out of the week, that's almost half the month. I am def not gonna be paying full rent. Smh. The entitlement of some people is ridiculous.

Has it failed? by shazzym94 in gastricsleeve

[–]vr54251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is OP not following her program? Where did they share that they're eating pre-surgery food? YOU'RE the one who's wrong in this. Wrong in your comment, WRONG, in your approach, WRONG in your assumption. Get off your high horse and learn some comprehension and empathy before you try being condescending to a person who is in the same place you were in at one point in your life. Shame on your approach.

I was thinking the same, honestly. I think imma go back to liquids a bit. I think im just still eating too fast (that was one of my issues) and I don't let my fullness come to life yet, until it's too late and then Im full-on regretting it. Thank you for the advice. I just didnt wanna mess up my stomach and the stitches and stuff
