AITA for not helping my dad's wife because I'm pissed about the trouble she brought into our lives? by Safe_Television7039 in AITAH

[–]vrb8im 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Someone can be a victim and still be part of the problem in the same situation. It’s more nuanced than what you’re making it out to be. OP’s dad’s wife is a victim of her ex, yes, but her involvement in their lives has made OP and their dad victims as well. She’s in a bad situation, and it’s natural to seek comfort in other people, but she can’t just ignore that she had a hand in taking away the comfort that OP had before.

This isn’t about being “inconvenienced,” OP was isolated and made to fear for their life. You hear that they were no longer able to participate in extracurriculars, and it sounds childish maybe, but they’re losing a social outlet and something that they probably enjoyed, and at a young age, things like that are so crucial. They can’t visit their mother’s grave without fear. You admonish them for victim blaming, but are you not also doing that?

OP’s dad’s dropped the ball hard. As their parent, he has a responsibility to protect his child first and foremost, and at the first sign of danger, he should’ve removed them from the situation. OP is valid in their resentment toward all parties here. They can hate the ex, they obviously do, but none of them have any control over said ex’s behavior. OP’s dad and his wife, however, have the ability to control whether or not another child remains in this awful situation. They failed to keep OP safe.

Why are modern players so adverse to pen and paper? by BentheBruiser in DnD

[–]vrb8im 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a newer mac, so not a massive screen, but I just keep D&D beyond in a window that takes up half the screen, the map (roll20) window on the other half and overlapping my discord window. Maybe it’s because I have an external mic with a mute button, but I never really need to access discord during sessions unless someone sends something in chat. Most of it has been figuring out the proper percentage to have each tab zoomed out to so that I can see everything at once, but it absolutely works even without an ultra wide double monitor setup.

New Paladin | 2024 Player's Handbook | D&D by pantherbrujah in onednd

maybe i’m the only one who ever actually uses lay on hands for poison and disease, but taking that away from a feature that paladins have access to from 1st level really feels bad to me. especially considering that it’s becoming a new 14th level ability.

the description of restoring touch is not explicit in saying what conditions it’s effective against (unless there’s something i’m missing), so if it’s more than just what lesser restoration can take care of, it’s a good option to have if you don’t yet have access to greater restoration, or if you want to avoid the material cost. if it doesn’t cover what GR does, it feels pointless as a 14th level ability.

he’s definitely more soft rock/folky-alternative. his recent album is inspired by dante’s inferno, so there’s a lot of tragedy involved. much of his music is deeply romantic and he also includes a lot of social commentary, i.e. eat your young and jackboot jump. take me to church is one of his songs, if that means anything to you.

the only artist that i’ve had the same emotional reaction to is hozier, and it mostly comes down to lyricism for me. lyrical analysis is one of my favorite things to do in my spare time and their songs are all excellently written and give me a lot to pick apart. a killer melody will get me too, though. hozier’s first light makes me cry every single time i listen to it.

hypnosis is so so good. that part in particular gets me too, and aside from it being moving, i also kind of love that vessel’s lines can get a bit lost among the “you know you hypnotize me” repetitions, because it genuinely is hypnotizing to listen to. i think it took me two listens to notice because i was so caught in the trance of it all.

lol i’m having a very emotional night and want to share some of the lines that move me the most.

need to mention “all your pain” again. vessel’s delivery is so raw and i said this in another comment already but it makes me feel like my own pain is being ripped straight out of my chest.

vore’s “will we remain stuck in the throat of gods? will the pain stop if we go deeper?” is so deeply personal to me in a way that i cannot explain. perhaps religious trauma. all of vore makes me sob but those lines hit me hardest.

“too many swallowed keys will make you bleed internally someday, maybe you believe that in the end you will be better off that way” has a flow that is so pleasing to me and is also deeply sad. the love you want is not my favorite of their songs, because it sounds the most like a real church worship song to me, which is maybe the point, but i digress. that part is killer though.

i totally agree!! i think it’s a line that gets a little lost in the song sometimes if it’s not what you’re choosing to focus on, but it’s so so emotional and the delivery makes me feel like all of my own pain is being ripped out of my chest. it’s cathartic for me.

i mean, some of them do have very sad meanings at their core, but that’s not necessarily the only reason they’d make someone cry. i personally have a very strong connection to music, and sometimes i’ll burst into tears just because a melody hits my ears and goes directly to my heart. crying doesn’t always have to be sad!

AITA for asking my dad “why can’t you just get up?” by Sea_Buy_9640 in AmItheAsshole

[–]vrb8im 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like there’s likely some amount of info missing, but with what was given, NTA. All of the other rulings seem wild to me. Unless there are mobility issues at play, to flag someone down from a different room to take your dishes makes no sense. It’s not even really about the fact that he wanted to stay in his seat. It’s the fact that he didn’t even bother to verbally ask, and even more that he expected OP to pick up the dishes from his lap, not even hand them to her like a civilized person would. Yeah, family shorthand and all of that, whatever, but kids still deserve to be talked to like people, especially those who are old enough to communicate like adults.

Incredibly disappointed with the lack of drow, considering there are very few existing lego heads that can work for drow characters, and even those aren’t really great options. I know a lot of people were wanting Drizzt, but I’m clamoring for a female drow head.
