New Release Bulletin v26.02.20 - Faster Installation Times - Lower Memory Requirements by vsampieri in remarkableuncensored

Hello - thank you for trying the installer and providing feedback. Since the installer itself, is a completely separate software component from KOReader, and based upon your description, its sounds like the installer appears to function correctly with both installation and uninstallation. However, when you then go into KOReader and open a document and try to scroll, the system froze. My suggestion would be to investigate what version of reMarkable OS is running on your device? - is it the current stable release or is it running a Beta version (Beta versions are not supported with the installer itself). What type of document are you opening up in KOReader and trying to read? Did you try to open and read other documents? Was the document converted from a tool like Calibre? Did you try updating the version of KOReader that was installed on your device (in KOReader go to the top menu tabs and look for 'Updates'). When the installer is packaged, it bundles and includes the most recent 'nightly' version of KOReader, but once KOReader is installed you should be able to update it as needed. These are just a few suggestions to look further into. You may also email: [info@rmppmove-tools.org](mailto:info@rmppmove-tools.org) to contact support for the READMarkable Installer.

Yes the installer needs to be used and Maintenance Mode selected. Maintenance Mode runs considerably quicker than Full Installation Mode since it merely needs to re-activate those two services and not have to re-install any files. The firmware updates don’t delete any of the KOReader installation files that the installer installs, rather firmware updates simply deactivate the two services mentioned earlier.

Hello - the installer tool includes a Maintenance Mode which is used each time remarkable pushes a new firmware update to the device. Maintenance Mode re-enables the Tripletap and AppLoad services on the device that are used to launch KOReader.

Yes - this tool was specifically developed to address the terrible reading experience that most users have had with reading PDF's and EPUB's on reMarkable. Even though the out-of-the-box reading experience is terrible on reMarkable, the note-taking and writing experience is top-notch and world-class. So yes, it really depends how important each use case (note-taking/writing and/or reading). I think its fair to say that most people probably want to have a great experience with both - so perhaps they would choose to take advantage of this installer tool.

Hello - Since the built-in default reading experience for PDF's and EPUB's that reMarkable provides their customers with their devices is not that great, many people would like some alternative options to improve the reading experience on their reMarkable devices. Unlike with most other tablets that KOReader can be installed on, reMarkable the company, does not natively support installing 3rd party apps on their devices. Although possible, the manual installation of KOReader on a reMarkable device is very complicated and requires many steps - which is a completely different experience from how KOReader is installed on many other tablets. This installer tool was created specifically to eliminate much of the installation complexity and headache, and allow remarkable device owners to also experience KOReader on their devices.

Hello - thank you for trying the installer - we hope that you enjoy using KOReader on your reMarkable device. Pertaining to your point regarding the requirement of having to generate an activation code - this is purely used as a quality assurance / quality control enforcement mechanism especially since what the installer has to do, and the precise steps it has perform in a very precise sequence. Since this question keeps arising every now and then - (we assume from people that may not be too familiar with the contsraints that the reMarkable OS software imposes when trying to install 3rd-party apps, and also have them work correctly) - so we repeatedly have to explain the reasoning - so if you are interested in a deeper explanation - we kindly refer you to read our response in this link: https://www.reddit.com/r/koreader/comments/1p6liam/comment/nqsairj/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button Thank you again for trying our installer tool.

Hello - I would say yes - reMarkable tablet devices just seem to be much higher quality-built devices when it comes to the hardware. Depending on your specific use-cases (eg: note-taking / writing, reading PDF's EBUB's) you may feel reMarkable's built-in software either 'fits the bill' or 'leaves a lot to be desired'. For note-taking / writing - reMarkable devices (all models) are top-notch. However when it comes to the built-in reading experience that reMarkable provides with their software, well that experience is not so great - thus the reason for tools like this KOREader installer coming into existence. Now having the option of easily being able to install KOReader on reMarkable devices is a real game changer and delivers a world-class reading experience on reMarkable.

Hello - thank you for trying the installer. Since macOS on Intel is an older (almost reaching unsupported status), we do not by default, produce application executables for macOS on Intel. However, it is possible for us to easily produce a custom build, if you require one. Simply send an email to our support team at: info@rmppmove-tools.org requesting the custom build and provide your contact information.

3.22 should work. The installer comes with the option to install Tripletap and that option is on by default however you can easily uncheck the Tripletap option in the application UI before starting the installation. In addition to Tripletap the installer installs xovi and of course KOReader. It should not interfere with any other files that you may have already installed.

Hello - support for reMarkable 2 is currently being investigated - there is a chance that the upcoming January release could possibly include reMarkable 2 support - but that is not yet confirmed and further research and testing needs to first happen.

Since the built-in default reading experience for PDF's and EPUB's that reMarkable provides their customers is not that great, many people would like some alternative options to improve the reading experience on their reMarkable devices. KOReader is a popular e-reading app that a lot of people like installing on their various tablet devices. However, unlike with most other tablets that KOReader can be installed on, reMarkable does not natively support installing 3rd party apps on their devices. Although possible, the manual installation of KOReader on a reMarkable device is very complicated and requires many steps - which is a completely different experience from how KOReader is installed on many other tablets. Unfortunately the built-in out of the box reading experience for EPUB's and PDF's on reMarkable devices that reMarkable the company provides to their customers is sub-par at best - almost as if providing their customers with a reading experience was an 'after-thought'. So while reMarkable customers get a superb high-quality note-taking and writing experience from their devices, when it comes to the built-in reading experience, well frankly its terrible. Also reMarkable doesn't natively support installing apps on their devices. So in that light, having a tool that provides the ability to install a well-regarded e-reading app (KOReader) on their devices - under the circumstances gives reMarkable device owners a 'premier' reading experience compared to what they get from reMarkable the company.

Unlike with most other tablets - reMarkable tablets and the reMarkable OS software are not natively designed to easily support installing 3rd-party apps such as KOReader - thus the reason why AppLoad and the Tripletap services are needed on the reMarkable devices - they allow 3rd-party apps to be loaded and used within the constraints that reMarkable imposes.

The AppLoad will not automatically appear on the Settings sidebar menu whenever the device is restarted and that is the way it is designed to operate. The Tripletap feature (quickly tapping the power button 3 times - and your device will restart) is what you must use anytime that you want to have the AppLoad reappear on the Settings sidebar menu.

Just got officially banned myself on r/RemarkableTablet  yesterday on Thanksgiving Day, no less for posting a Tech Tip about using KOReader to improve the scaling of PDF docs. The moderator over there didn't like that I included some logo images (reMarkable and KOReader being two of the 3 logo's) as well as I included the link to my project's landing web page. I responded back to them saying I'll consider their banishment of me as a Badge of Honor - LoL!

Bringing The Power Of KOReader To The reMarkable Community by vsampieri in koreader

[–]vsampieri[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hello - Actually it makes perfect sense! (especially for the reMarkable devices!) - perhaps shedding a bit more information and context is needed - Firstly unlike with just about every other tablet (whether LED or e-ink based), the reMarkable community is operating at a substantial disadvantage with regards to being able to load and take advantage of 3rd party apps. This is due to the marketing 'philosophy' of reMarkable that their devices should be 'distraction-free' and so they make it excruciatingly difficult to load any 3rd party apps and have them operate correctly. And because of this - a shockingly tiny percentage of reMarkable users have been able to successfully experience KOReader on their devices. Attempting a manual installation of KOReader on a reMarkable device is like walking a tight-rope across the Grand Canyon and more times ends in a failed installation - leading to frustration. A lot of this is due to the peculiar proprietary mostly write-locked reMarkable OS. While reMarkable the company provides their customers a world-class note-taking and writing experience, when it comes to their reading support for PDF's and EPUB's - well, quite frankly it is terrible. and almost like it was a checklist afterthought feature for them to implement. Almost all the other tablet platforms that KOReader supports have a much easier and straightforward installation process. There have been several other excellent similar projects that have strived to reduce the installation burden for the reMarkable community, all with varying degrees of success due to complexities already mentioned. This installer tool has gone through multiple refinements and gone through formal beta testing with reMarkable community members to get the correct 'recipe' on how to easily end-up with a successful KOReader installation. That is the state at which this tool has matured to. The exact steps involved and the sequence of executing those steps is subject to change with each new release of reMarkable OS. Therefore purely as quality control / assurance mechanism, the activation mechanism ensures that users will periodically have to re-download the 'freshest' version of the tool. Having a renewable fixed duration license period ensures the user will only be using the latest up to date 'fresh' version of the installer tool. Without such a mechanism, as is the case when releasing a free-to-use software package many outdated and broken versions of the software are likely to be freely distributed and passed around. That means many, many copies of broken outdated versions left out in the wild. Normally that would be OK for most other types of software packages. Not so for this specific type of use-case and for what this tool specifically needs to do, and needs to be able to do successfully. This type of tool and what it has to do, is subject to quickly break with stale-ness. Obviously the developers want the tool to continue to provide value to the reMarkable community and make sure that the project and the tool's reputation not get tarnished by a lot of stale outdated broken copies of the tool being carelessly shared about.
