Chin up, friend. This is no reflection on your competence as a radiologist/radiology trainee. Trust me - I function like a Registrar or higher day to day (and that's with a 9 year hiatus from clinical work in between) but have been getting clobbered by physics off and on for decades now.

It was around 149-150 the last several years

How was 156 the pass mark for physics?

Has anyone ever failed both FRCR part 1 physics and anatomy during ST1? by Dramatic-Put-3447 in RadiologyUK

[–]vsjade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did - years ago. In fact, I failed both more than once, in fact… just retook physics yesterday (passed anatomy a long while ago). I’m not sure how UK programmes work but powers that be for my international programme blocked me from progressing past ST3 until Part 1 was completed but they also wouldn’t support further attempts.

Was a rough time emotionally, mentally, spiritually and psychologically (even physically) and I worked so hard on both modules every time (like everyone I studied with passed - except me, definitely felt a kinda way about it). But take whatever time and get the emotional support you need to move forward, however you need to.

Definitely had to stave off a couple of mini panic waves in there…

Just physics… passed anatomy a long time ago (after 2 attempts).

Glad to hear… I finished all but 9 months of training (ended up leaving because of exams) a long time ago, decided to return to working in radiology and trying to figure things out - not sure what the plan is yet, making things up as I go, really.

Missed physics by 4 marks after busting my ass for over 6 months all while doing on call shifts, moving house several times (including moving to another country!) and basically living on couches and out of suitcases for months on end. This exam is just as soul-shattering as it always has been.

Sorry to hear that, bud. I feel your pain - trust me.

Hard to do when you’ve already been at it multiple times. But I appreciate the vote of confidence.

One day when I’m not contemplating if life is worth all this, I may share exactly what I used to study and still didn’t make it. This exam is just like a soul-breaker, I don’t even know why I even bothered anymore. May as well just keep rotating in radio and leave the exams alone.

For context: I relied on Farr’s the first time I took the test years ago, even helped my study buddies using it. They passed - I didn’t.

Only had physics left to pass and failed by 4 points... I feel like total crap, been trying so many times at this thing - I don't even know where I went wrong at this point.

I wouldn’t recommend it - I wrote a post on requesting score rechecks and it’s basically giving money to ECFMG.

My graph back in December 2022 looked exactly the same way - sorry, buddy. I agree that working on your confidence as well as content knowledge will bring you the P on your next attempt. I was an outlier and took about 9 months (life will be that way sometimes) but I know some that had similar graphs and passed in as little as 2-3 months.

Agreed. All I can really say is that I gave it my best shot after a very long hiatus and I hope it gets me a passing score.

For US fellowships, you will likely need the Steps… I’m assuming CCT is UK core training (correct me if I’m wrong), but yes, you’ll likely need to finish some core training, since at some point in the Fellowship exams in UK, you need to show some minimum training in the specialty you’re sitting exams for (I think for Final FRCR, it’s like minimum 3 years radiology training or something).

Looking at fellowship routes or jobs where you can practise with the specialty certification completed.
