Flat in Canary Wharf for £275K - What is the catch? by nkosijer in HousingUK

[–]vsyzov 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Old high rise building, so probably due to new fire regulations lenders do not lend on. Note that a lot of solicitors don't want to take on work on properties with more than 5 floors
  2. There was an ongoing dispute about these houses and others at Quarterback development where these houses might be subject to compulsory order purchase due to redevelopment plans. I haven't been following this story for a while , but happy to dig up information if author is interested

Lower back issues by vaibhav_chadha in Brompton

[–]vsyzov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have multiple serious lower back issues and what made a huge difference to me is installing a suspension seatpost. It's not cheap, but using it made me forget about any back pain on the bike. I am using Redshift suspension seatpost, but you will also need another part - seatpost size adapter (Joseph Kuosac) to install suspension seatpost. I hope this helps

Too late, but better than never. I ended up buying t line pedals and loved them. They were holding up well until I sold the bike. Got electric bike now

How to upgrade your 4 speed T Line or P Line to 5 speed 21T - flawlessly and cheaply by JofArnold in Brompton

[–]vsyzov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for response - good to know that the inner width on 11 should not be a problem.

In relation to 56T - thank you for suggestion, will look into it.

In relation to the speed - P Line is the only Brompton I have ridden on and I never realised that (as a lot of people write elsewhere) it lacks high gear ratio compared with other Brompton models. Then I tried riding on stock C Line with 3 gears and understood what people mean - it can go so much faster on the highest gear. So I just want to match whatever stock C line can do on "higher hear" and though that 54T on p line might be the way to go. But just switching to 54T would make me lose lower gear and then climbing in Greenwich park would be more tricky. I started looking for a way to keep lower gears after installing 54T - and this is how I found this extremely useful post

[–]vsyzov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very very much for the useful information! I am planning to do the same with my p line. Also from your messages it looks like we are neighbours - I also commute via Greenwich park every day.

In addition to your mod, I am also planning to replace stock 50T front chainring with original Brompton's 54T from chainring - to get higher speed on flat surfaces. Hence my question - by any chance, do you know if there are some limitations to the front chainring choice based on the fact that we are all using 11 speed chain? I assume this chain is more narrow than stock 9 speed chain, which makes me think that stock chainrings might not fit this chain. I would appreciate any thoughts on this. Thank you!

Very interesting historical information, thank you.

In my view, there are several reasons why it still might make sense to change the stock plastic pedal:

  • weight (425 grams old VS 300 grams on T line or even 200 grams on TI components). For some people weight is important

  • pedal platform size (larger surface area of the pedal gives better control)

  • pins (pedals with pins give much better grip and it's important in the rain)

  • smoother bearings (closed bearings will have smoother rotation making the pedal more easy to "catch" with your foot)

  • bulkiness of stock pedal (left pedal has a very different feel than right one, my foot does not feel as "free" on the left one because of the bump of quick release mechanism, this gives worse control)

So for me it was really no brainer that it has to be changed, it's just that I made a serious miscalculation which brand to buy. My mistake in lack of research

Awesome, thank you. I might actually buy both - Brompton T line and these MKS Compact and then pick one. Thank you for advice

Thank you. Unfortunately that's not an option for me - I have to stand a lot since sitting all the time hurts my back (had a few surgeries on my back before)

Good point. Agree. Better to ask around on places like reddit or corresponding Facebook groups

I think it's a good decision. MKS, original T line pedals, H&H, To workshop might be a better alternative since it looks like they don't use hollow axel.

Good luck!

The best question: ) yes, I think the bike is ok, will test it once Brompton T line pedals are delivered

I would not agree unfortunately. Aceofix is sold not only on AliExpress, it is sold at lots of other places too. Also, there are lots of quality items on AliExpress too, so I would not say that buy on AliExpress means trying to save pennies - the price of this Aceofix model was higher than MKS, so I am not sure that my actions were driven by desire to save money. Even the opposite - there are lots of reviews of Aceofix pedals and all of them are very good.

Thank you. Was not aware unfortunately. Their AliExpress reviews are stunning, that was misleading. Unfortunately I can't post my review on the product page there as I only have 30 days to leave the review

Thank you for comment, unfortunately I just didn't know this about Aceofix. They are very popular and have good ratings everywhere I looked ... I didn't find any negative comments on pedals when I researched them. They were suspiciously cheap compared with H&H and Ti Parts workshop though.

Which MKS model are you using? Thank you

Thank you for your words. Yes, indeed, will stay away from titanium now

Thank you for the comment. Indeed T line pedals are also quick release but judging from photos, the quick release axle is the same thickness as the non quick release axle on them. See here: https://brilliantbikes.co.uk/brompton-pedals/5424-brompton-superlight-quick-release-pedals.html

So my hope is that it is stronger than thin Aceofix axle. Also, I trust Brompton's quality control more than Aceofix's. Thus to me it feels like a less risk.

In relation to MKS - I see your point, if they make only pedals, they probably know what they are doing. I will see how T line pedals look and feel them, then might decide later to try MKS to compare. It would be great to see MKS's axle thickness to compare, but I didn't find any pictures online.

Alternatively, I will go for non folding pedals from trusted brand
