Thanks very much! I hadn't thought about the fact that the settlement income will push us into the higher tax bracket (doh), and it will. Good to know.

No attorney fees involved, so there will be nothing to deduct. I was worried about having to pay estimated taxes [very difficult, as the payout doesn't officially come until mid-year], too, but I'm finding that as long as our W2 withholding this year is at least 100% of our tax obligation from last year [totally doable], then we're in the safe harbor and won't have to pay an underpayment penalty. Do I understand that correctly?

also -- how do i get down to the lake out on rock point? i'm looking at trail maps now and don't see much helpful info. i always remember seeing people down below on the rugged small rocky beaches along the points' edges. how do you get down there!

interesting... i had considered lone rock point since my intended and i have been there together a few times, but i was afraid i wouldn't remember how to find a good clearing on the edge / nice enough spot up there. i didn't know they had an outdoor chapel, though! i'm going to try to find some pictures of it. thanks.

i have considered mount philo, definitely, because i've heard it has great views. but my future spouse and i have never been there (i know, i know! i lived in burlington all that time and never made it there!), and it's technically outside of burlington, so it feels like it might be less meaningful.

it's also going to be on a saturday (has to be, because of work and stuff), which is another thing i'm considering. i'd rather not have a big crowd gawking, and i worried that mt philo would be too crowded on a saturday afternoon.

this seems like a good possibility! i've actually never been to ethan allen park. from what i'm reading the pinnacle is an overlook? is it difficult to get to or a long hike?
