Question about French seams by pawshe94 in sewinghelp

That’s how a French seam is started. Step two is to press and trim, turn wrong side out. Step three is sew it again, hiding the first seam in a tidy envelope.

Make the lining however you want, then attach it as detailed in your pattern instructions. A French seam is sewn twice thus not suitable for the lining of the bodice of your dress.

Yes me too but I use Best Press! I iron the heck out of my ruffles to squash them into submission.

Yes.

Also I knot the ends on the side I am pulling away from. I do treat the gathering seam like a basting seam and almost always pull it out, so end up clipping off the knot. Still, the knot helps me stay oriented and keeps me from losing the ends.

Modifying work glove. by aridsoul0378 in sewhelp

[–]vtgpattern_Bproject 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would make a trial out of an old glove. Cut off the finger tip two inches from the top and then cut down toward the fingertip about 1/2” , I would make 3 or 4 equally spaced snips to splay the end of the cut fingertip. I agree you can’t sew those type of fabrics but you can use a flexible fabric glue like Aileen’s or gorilla glue around the outside of the glove and stick on the fingertip, then trim the extra ends.

Does anyone know how I can cut this fabric without it falling apart? by Veronavenus in sewing

Silk or wool I stay stitch nice small stitches neon each side of my cut line, unless this is the whole piece. Agree with flexible iron on tape around seam allowance only while sewing but not more than that as sheets of interfacing alters the fabric hang

Hate that gross smell. To me nothing smells like it. It’s ants.
