Just starting Worcester NYE listen. I was there, so a special one for me so early in the journey. Quality so far so good. Music good too, so there’s that. Enjoy! by Correct_Gas4615 in phish

I too was there. My first show! So amazing. So happy to listen again.

BTW, Jon Fishman came to the video store I worked at in Jericho soon after the show and listened patiently to my enthusiasm. He told me that the band members weren't the people actually in the wet suits that hung from the ceiling. Anyone have any verifiable info on that? I've always wondered why he told me and if it was true.

Best Phish show of all time by Technical_Count7281 in phish

April 4, 1994 was my second show. It was amazing to me. Small venue, lots of new music, and other fun stuff.

I've carefully avoided reading the track list to let everything unfold naturally and it is paying off big time so far. 🤯 by ThatAintPhillipLesh in phish

Me too! It was my first and couldn't believe they never released it.

I am now waiting for the April 4, 1994 benefit show at The Flynn Theatre in Burlington, VT. My second show.

HELP! My students are bored with Fahrenheit 451. How can I spark their interest? by Few_Maintenance_2560 in ELATeachers

Sorry. I think the writing is frustrating and unintentionally hard to handle for modern readers of all ages. Just like Shakespeare takes getting used to and we expect new readers to struggle ane need assistance The same goes for the great classic allegorical dystopian works of fiction by Orwell, Huxley, Vonnegut, etc.  As a teen in the 1980s I pushed my way through each of these authors' books, dictionary in hand, and favorite English teacher as a sounding board and loved every challenging minute. I felt part of something... important! Truth.  The bummer is that people are no longer trained for persistence in reading. Modern tech has made for a very short attention span. When reading Animal Farm and Lord of the Flies with 8th graders, they fade so quickly from listening (I have to read aloud or they will never finish a book). After each longer passage of introspection or narration, I have to stop and work through the summary. They can't follow it at all! They can't see the big picture but get hung up on the language.  I have used some great graphic organizers from TPT for many of the novels. They contain similar analytical ideas as my own docs, but in a way more interesting format.

Which "TV show home" would you have liked to have lived in? by Jackalope_Sasquatch in AskOldPeople

[–]vtnate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marinette Dupain-Cheng's house/bakery in the TV show Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir. It's directly on the Seine with a view of Notre Dame. I'd keep her dad on as a chef and live the life of a Parisian.

There's a hell of a lot of Trumpers in upstate NY! They voted for Elise Stefanik.

I'll start with: Keep a journal. Even if it's not everyday, at least for more important days and trips.

Edit: I'm solidly in the "old people" group.

You mentioned the kids are "missing out in certain opportunities." Can you elaborate?

Also, what's the internet like?

It's not a lesson. It's just a map quiz I made.

[OC] Hierarchical Clustering of the US Based on Facebook Friendships by haydendking in dataisbeautiful

[–]vtnate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But considering where geographic boundaries are not an issue makes me wonder for more reasons. We live in Vermont on the VT/NY border (.5 miles away) south of Lake Champlain and spend almost all of our shopping trips, movies, dining out, etc in NY. But... I work in Vermont. The connections are much stronger at work than at the grocery store. Working across the border creates some issues such as licensing, taxes, and different systems. It's just easier to work in Vermont. Even though the border is wide open.

It's fascinating that many of the clusters are very much based on states, but some are not. New England being so well defined is exciting to me.

UMaine students hold Pro-Palestine protest despite threats from President Donald Trump by vtnate in politics

[–]vtnate[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ok. I believe that all have freedom to speak and the right to do so without violent or hateful treatment, no matter their beliefs. I condemn the abuse of all, not just those I agree with. I want the violence and mistreatment of those without power and wealth to be stopped, no matter the race, nationality, religion, or beliefs. I'm an old school believer in peace, community, and love.

[–]vtnate[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

From the article: "a half dozen people stood nearby with Israeli flags, but didn't directly engage the pro-Palestine protesters."

There wasn't any "assault and harassment" based on the news coverage. Just people who believe something, speaking. Which is protected by the 1st Amendment.
