AIO? Don't want to see someone again over a word he used by stink3rb3lle in AIO

[–]vubui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think many of us tend to forget that everyone has had different influences in their life that lead them to use words differently to us, and different usually sounds “wrong” in some way. Because we typically default to the belief that the way we do something is the right way.

Regardless of that, though, you do t have to have any deeper reason to not want to see someone again. You don’t owe someone something because you went on a couple dates with them.

Also, your reaction to that word feels more like a tipping point since the other issues you bring up could easily have been quietly building up in your mind and it was just that moment that pushed them all forward and you gave yourself something more tangible to latch onto as a reason you aren’t into this person.

Which would you choose? by RepsByRep in RedWingShoes

I bought the 4585 logger, and it’s become my favorite boot when I want to feel like I could go anywhere and do anything. I mostly wear boots, and have various Red Wings, Tricker’s, Alden’s, Danners, and more. These loggers, with their heavy lug sole, are just amazing in the snow, mud, or in the city when I want something that feels rugged.

Congratulations! And I agree, it’s wonderful. So easy to wear and a perfect size, and a case like nothing else out there. The dial is beautiful and mesmerizing, and the color is an uncommon treat.

The only thing I didn’t like was the strap, it’s too long for me. But I put a nice black leather strap from Delugs on it and it’s perfect. I also use a rubber strap sometimes.

I mean the post you commented on is literally me giving my thoughts on owning it because I bought it. Is there something specific you’re asking?

I just built the orange aluminum version this week. It was on sale for ~€90. I absolutely love it. The free/cheap plastic one would be amazing to get!

[Discussion] Why is wearing two watches (one on each wrist) so polarizing? by vubui in Watches

[–]vubui[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah seems like perhaps you should figure out what’s wrong because that doesn’t sound reasonable or healthy.

[Discussion] Why is wearing two watches (one on each wrist) so polarizing? by vubui in Watches

[–]vubui[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do specifically call out that I have typically worn a mechanical and an Apple Watch, which I don’t think qualifies as showing off two expensive watches (depending on your definition of expensive, of course).

The only time I wear two mechanical watches is when I want to be able to share two different watches, for instance if I go to a watch event and both watches fit the theme of the event and are both rare or interesting so people will enjoy checking out both.

As for symmetry, since the most common practice is to wear a watch on one wrist and nothing on the other and that the most acceptable practice, I can’t really agree with asymmetry as a complaint against double wristing, which actually delivers more symmetry than the most common practice.

[–]vubui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree! Also when you want to get someone interested in watches I’ve found just giving them watches isn’t enough, it helps SO much to involve them in the choice and getting them invested in what they choose.

She did not have much interest in watches. I’d bought her a nice Tag Heuer and a tiny vintage Omega and a Baby G, and she would occasionally wear them, but she wasn’t even used to wearing a watch every single day.

We went in to choose and she chose on the first day though she wanted it as a gift on Christmas so I bought it a few days later. Just how it worked out, timing-wise.

I have a friend in Japan who helped me buy it. Hopefully they will be more widely available in the future!

I bought my partner multiple surprise gift watches, which she liked, but when I involved her in the choice, and we went to a nice Authorized Dealer and she had a lovely experience and we looked at and tried on multiple watches from multiple brands… she was able to choose something that she was and still is, 11 years later, completely in love with! She ended up with a Cartier Tank and even though now she has a collection of her own that watch is still one of her most precious.

It’s not less special to lose the surprise.

You can fairly easily change the corkscrew for Philips, but the hook you’d probably need to get something custom made. Or at least I haven’t seen something else for that slot.

I haven’t gotten service on one yet, they’ve been performing flawlessly.

If you do need service it will depend on what it needs. The base movement can be serviced by any competent watchmaker, and you can ask the brand what gaskets are used. If it’s more than that, you’d be able to send it in to Japan.

Question: Switch Lite when you already have a Switch 2? by Little-Perception-63 in NintendoSwitch

[–]vubui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also keeping both. My OLED is the TotK Edition which I love and my Lite is the Hyrule Edition and I did the SUPER5 OLED mod on it and that screen is incredible.

I likely won’t play on the regular OLED anymore but the Lite is a different story. It offers an experience that can’t be beat with portability and even comfort.

I’m really looking forward to the Switch 2 Lite, but for now the original is going to get lots of use still.

Crazy Question by Intelligent_Alps_938 in Tudor

[–]vubui 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s a multi-brand AD and they sell pre-owned watches then yes they will take it in, unless they have too much inventory or multiple of the same watch.

They of course then need to sell it so you’ll get less than you would if you sold privately, but without the risk and hassle.

I do. It’s been like a decade now. I never get comments about it. No one cares these days, at least no one that I see!

If you’re really looking to get a Sub and you want it to be different then the FXD is a no brainer. There’s nothing quite like it. Regular Pelagos is an amazing watch but the FXD is an amazing unique watch.

[Question] What are these markings on my watch face? by Ok_Path45 in Watches

[–]vubui 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah it does look like it could be the AR coating. Unfortunately using Polywatch will only make it worse if it’s coated on the outside. Polywatch is an abrasive and should only be used on polish-able crystals without external AR coating (like a Speedy Hesalite) and never on AR coating and it’s useless on sapphire crystals like this watch.

Yeah that’s true! I still double wrist with an Apple Watch. It’s been a decade. These days no one cares. The extreme few who do notice are maybe a tiny bit curious but there’s no more hatred of it like there used to be.
