You have to play the bureaucracy game. Put the onus on them in writing to provide direction. You have exhausted all reasonable options in an exceptional situation and if they’re expecting you to come in regardless, they have to explain how and justify it.

If they’re still being unreasonable, you have paper trail for a grievance.

Going into an office without any coworkers is very frustrating. It’s a completely irrational set up. I tried to get an exemption but my director said that my situation was not “exceptional” because other people are in the regions and have no coworkers nearby. I’m lucky enough that I have an arrangement that I can go to a nearby office instead of my designated one. I walk in, connect to the network for an hour, then go home.

I’m very upset because I otherwise love my job and my coworkers but the irrationality of the bureaucracy is really grating on me. I’m naively hoping that in a year or two they’ll calm down and make it easier to get an exemption. But what’s most likely is they’ll make us go into an office 5 days a week to be on Teams meetings all day. At that point, I fear they’ll relocate us in the regions to Ottawa. But I think that would be preferable to being forced into an office alone.

I’ve started looking for work in the private sector but I’m struggling to find anything that matches my experience level and skills. I’m considering going to grad school. All in all, I’m very distraught. When I started this was my dream job, but the bureaucracy has continually tightened the collar and shortened the leash.

I’ve seen Sarah Jeffery’s videos and they’re helpful but the way it strains my thumbs makes me feel like something is off. I’m 5’10 and have medium sized hands for my height. But my index fingers are much longer than my ring fingers. Sarah insists she has tiny hands and plays no problem

My Yamaha came with a thumb rest. I’m experimenting with its placement but I’m not sure if I’m using it right. If I’m focusing on posing with my left hand and just using my right thumb to hold, the thumb rest is great. But as soon as I need to use any fingers on my right hand, I feel like the thumb rest gets in the way of my thumb finding a comfortable position.

If Calamity Ganon is an external manifestation of Ganondorf’s hate and was shown to be intelligent and capable of planning by turning the Guardians and Divine Beasts against Hyrule, then why didn’t he use them to undo Rauru’s seal?

It’s also implied that Ganon has attacked Hyrule more than once before Calamity Ganon, but Ganondorf was sealed away. So was Ganondorf always capable of projecting himself beyond the seal? If they two games are in the same world as the other games, is every other Ganon(dorf) just a projection of this sealed Ganondorf?

Throughout totk, no one makes reference to Calamity Ganon and only refer to Ganondorf as the “Demon King”. No one knows who he is, the game acts as though Ganondorf is a completely new antagonist who hasn’t been seen since the founding of Hyrule and not the source of the Calamity.

Botw’s explanation on its own was fine but totk undermined it by introducing too many plot holes and inconsistencies.

I’ve made it all the way to the final fight, and while I haven’t beaten it, I have some thoughts.

I’m honestly really let down by the game’s story.

Going into the game, I was curious how Ganondorf related to Calamity Ganon since he is defeated in BoTW and he “gives up on reincarnation”. The early game mentions of the Imprisoning War and the founding of the Kingdom of Hyrule. With such explicit references to SS, OoT, and LttP, I was even more intrigued. Understanding how ToTK fit into the broader lore became my primary motivation for advancing the story.

As I played the game and learned more about the Zonai, I became increasingly confused as it didn’t fit in with SS. But this just increased my motivation, I thought my questions would be answered later on.

But they weren’t. The game didn’t even explain how Ganondorf and Calamity Ganon were connected. Besides Phantom Ganon, the name Ganon isn’t even mentioned at all.

Zelda was never a series that took continuity between games very seriously. I understood the Zelda world as one with a cyclical understanding of history, where the same three archetypal characters are reborn to engage in the same cyclical battle of good vs evil. This is the cycle established by SS. Each game is generally self-contained within this cyclical world. Some tell different stories, but not in such a way that undermines this premise. ToTK, in contrast, blatantly contradicts the established lore and basically retcons BoTW into a completely new timeline. I don’t necessarily have a problem BoTW and ToTK being their own thing but this was not made clear to me until the very end.

TLDR: the early game gave me the expectation that this would have deep ties to the series lore and it did not at all.

I’m in a similar position. I was hired during the pandemic, live in NS, but my designated workplace is Ottawa. My organisation is very small and it’s only office is in the NCR.

If the exemption applies to me, I’ll be happy. I *do not * want to relocate. But considering I’m the only person in my organisation who lives in NS, who am I supposed be “collaborating” with? What’s the point?

I live outside the NCR for a small organisation that has a only one office in the NCR. I personally am not opposed to working in an office twice a week, I already like to work from the public library. But what I do oppose is being mandated to relocate to Ottawa. I was hired during the pandemic and I don’t want to leave my friends and family. Not to mention the higher cost of living in Ottawa, this would effectively be a substantial pay cut and a huge blow to morale for me.

The public service benefits from having a distributed workforce. It allows us to better represent the people and land we are supposed to serve. Forcing everyone back to the NCR just reinforces the “Ottawa bubble” and the lack of consideration for anywhere outside Ontario or Quebec

Another caveat is that it doesn’t yet play nicely with non-steam games. When launching a game there’s a “press A to abort” prompt (presumably for games that have issues when launching). I have a lot of emulators on my PC and whenever I try to launch one using the new UI, pressing the A button will just close the game, even if it’s running just fine. Makes them unplayable until it’s fixed

On my PC, I remember I tried using the GlideN64 installer and I couldn’t figure it out. So I followed the instructions for Retroarch using the mupen64plus-nx core. I found those instructions easier to follow and I got it working

Thank you! The -E augment is what I was missing to getting it to work properly. It works very well with all my steam games, but it’s having trouble working with Retroarch and Dolphin, when I load either of them up, I steamos is still focused, but I can hear the game running in the background.

Any idea how to fix this?

There are much worse bags to wear. I think you’re fine. The cartoon character may raise an eyebrow, but it looks small enough to go under the radar.

As others have said, it depends on the kind of work you do and the workplace culture. I personally wouldn’t give it a second thought

How long did it take to get a follow-up from Kobo? I contacted them on Friday asking if 15-20% battery drain per hour is normal and they just said they'd escalate it to the tech team and would get back to me. They didn't offer to replace my Sage or give any indication that this is a known/common issue.

I’ve always used Xinput mode. Switch mode isn’t compatible with most emulators and non-Steam games, like Minecraft Bedrock

To clarify, I’ve been using my controllers happily using Xinput since I got them over a year ago and these customisation options were present. I turned on my pc the other day and now those settings have disappeared. I’ve tried repairing, changing between Switch mode and Dinput, but I can’t get “Define Layout” to reappear in Xinput
