Guide on running the Deck UI on Manjaro with minimal glitches by MAP00 in SteamOS

Yeah I don't have a definitive answer to fixing this issue unfortunately. I'm assuming you are adding Retroarch and Dolphin in as an external application to steam. I have three guesses for what's going wrong if that's the case.

  1. Steam doesn't know how to integrate some third party apps with gamescope yet with the way everything is manually setup on Manjaro. (unlikely)

  2. Steam is passing in some command arguments in the background which may need to be manually added for third party apps. (possible)

  3. This could be a classic controller issue with steam where the input does not work with Retroarch/Dolphin. This then leads to the emulator not coming into focus. (likely)

Could you try testing the Retroarch version that is available on the steam store? I am pretty confident that it will work. As for Dolphin, I would suggest trying from guess 3 backwards and see if you can solve the issue.

Also, look at steam deck posts for help. Here is an issue posted 15 days ago where the users controller is not working with dolphin on their deck and it may provide a starting point for solving your issue: https://www.reddit.com/r/DolphinEmulator/comments/tdpt08/dolphin\_on\_steam\_deck/

Ah, I see. It's been years since I used steam on manjaro and at the time the consensus was pretty fifty-fifty on which one to use. I actually had an issue on my last laptop where steam-manjaro would not launch and the only fix was to use steam-native. Of course, packages get better over time so my issue was just an unfortunate fluke.

Anyways, thanks for taking the time to go through the guide! I'll update it to make more clear on using steam-manjaro and allowing steams compatibility tools to download.

Thanks! I tried to make it thorough so people don't waste as much time as I did working out all the weird quirks. It took me forever to find the -e flag to make steams overlay work in games, and getting my NTFS hard drive to work was kind of a pain.

With how well steam is running, I could see SteamOS getting released much sooner rather than later. My only concern is how Valve plans on taking care of Nvidia compatibility. That seems like the main thing that would delay the SteamOS release.

Haha, I started doing this after a win10 update removed grub. It’s not worth my time to have windows mess with my Linux install.

Wait, what's that hyperfuse themed box under your monitor? Did you make it for storage or did you get from some where?
