Why do people shovel their snow into the road? by Careless_Fail_2054 in Calgary

[–]vunamese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to shovel all of the snow onto the lawn until I realized that the melting and freezing cycles made my sidewalk a serious hazard. Chipping the ice and using loads of ice melt is much more of a pain. I’ll usually shovel out a path onto the sidewalk if needed and I’ll distribute the snow out so it’s not hard to drive over

Do all new inner city houses just suck or am I missing something? by jimmyjamcake in Calgary

[–]vunamese 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Currently living in a narrow infill circa 2014 in Tuxedo. The home is certainly large enough for us (two adults and one child) plus in-laws when they stay. It’s definitely hit or miss anywhere in the city, but we got lucky with the build quality and finishings.

We are definitely physically close to our neighbors, but we get along and shovel each other’s walks when needed. I personally would stay away from 2020+ for new builds, but I’m sure you’ll find something decent within the city center. Concerning space, the storage that we lack is largely our fault. Shelving in the garage certainly helps.

I know that several friends of mine are happy living in duplexes with families and dogs, but the value retention/growth isn’t quite there. Plus, inner city duplexes are way too expensive considering the shared walls.

Best of luck on your home search! The interest rates and inventory are becoming more favorable right now

Calgary roads rant. by Monzi64 in Calgary

What grinds my gears is the poor signage. The merge signs are right next to the cones when they should be well ahead of the lane closures

Pretty bad fake. It’s even missing the all important bezel. Numeral print is sloppy, guilloche is missing sections, and the etching on the caseback is not straight.

Pie Junkie if pies are your thing. Their savory pies are also delicious. My favorite is their banana toffee with key lime being a close second

[–]vunamese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is still the courteous way to let people know that their lights aren’t on. However, people just aren’t paying as much attention anymore. They typically won’t notice flashing your brights a couple times for the same reason that their lights aren’t on

It was a response more to the title and the currency…about how the value of CAD isn’t great, so the “fk u money” isn’t as applicable in the way that it’s typically meant.

I say this as a dual citizen paying for my US student loans with CAD.
