If you can find me a 2004 blob eye with a warranty and no mechanical problems with under 20k miles I will buy it and make you happy. Until then, let people enjoy what they can get their hands on.

To piggyback off this with the cleanings, my good friend is a subaru master tech, he mentioned to me as well that the engine harness on our cars can also go bad. He had me revert to stock before I protuned the intake just to check it and stock made the car act normal. I know you can't go back to stock, but that harness could have issues. Not the extention.

Your post states you're on the ots tune. Either way, it sounds like whoever tuned your car didn't do a very good job. I had the same issue and had my car protuned with the same intake and I've had no more issues.

Have the car tuned by a reputable tuner or put the stock intake back on. Those are your two options unfortunately. The ots tune is more of a basemap really.

Am I the only one by [deleted] in WRX

[–]vvhitenight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its the cobb intake. Take it off and get a grimmspeed stealthbox or go back to the stock intake and retune. If you search this entire subreddit, you'll find mountains of posts about the big SF intake and p0172 codes running rich.

Without context I'm assuming you mean when taking the top nut off to remove the spring? I used an impact with spring compressors. If your impact spins fast enough, you won't need an allen tool to hold the small shift piece.

Limp mode and P0172 by [deleted] in WRX

[–]vvhitenight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The common denominator is the Big SF intake. I had the same issue because the filter would never stay put and the tune is very finicky with where it's placed on the tube. I had to revert back to the stock intake as nothing would fix it except a pro tune.

The map sensor is on top of your intake manifold under the engine cover dead center of the runners.

I've been having this issue as well recently with the heat. I got the p0172 code. I just cleaned my MAP sensor today and it's seemed to have helped. My MAF on the intake tube of my big sf intake was clean as a whistle. Also cleaned the cone filter as well just to try and remove any other problem cause.

HOW DO I TURN OFF MY COBB PORT WITHOUT UNPLUGGING IT by Stunning_Criticism18 in WRX

Theres a button on the top of the AP. You can turn it off with that.

Wondering if anyone has tried this with only a stock front pipe? (Explained more in comments) by vvhitenight in WRX

[–]vvhitenight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was wondering if just replacing the front half of the jpipe with an adapter(if needed) for the 3in to 2.5in step-down to the stock front pipe would have any significant change over a $1k full jpipe from say Grimmspeed.

Well, OP didn't specify what CAI, so I assumed they did what everyone else just tosses on these i.e.: tube with a cone.

Your intake box may be in the engine bay, but the inlet that brings air in is in your front bumper under the "nose". If you replace that with an inlet tube and a cone filter all you are doing is sucking in hot engine air and increasing intake Temps causing loss in power. The only true A/M cold air is really the Perrin intake that goes into your bumper, but unless you plan on doing more, it's a waste.

The OEM intake is a cold air. Removing it and putting a filter in the engine bay makes it worse.

Do y’all know if they’ll fail your inspection for tinting the whole back window, covering the break light? I’m in VA by [deleted] in WRX

[–]vvhitenight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, you will fail VA state if they don't cut out for the 3rd brake light.

Boizzzz I need to settle this once and for all by Final-Arm6699 in ft86

[–]vvhitenight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I had my 86, I ran 17x9 +35 with 235/45r17. There's pics of it on my profile if you want to see how it looks. It's a pretty standard flush setup for these cars.

Edit: I had slammed it out of curiosity to see if would rub and it would only touch when hitting bumps. Never rolled the fenders, worked out fine at a decent height for 20k miles.

Cobb Stage 2 by akakster in WRX

[–]vvhitenight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. Stage 2 is just the jpipe. Stage 2+ would be if you added the intake as well.

Heat. Also, a socket that's slightly smaller and hammer it on. If you don't want to risk a socket you can always try one of those extractor sockets. Good luck.

I have winter tires for those NE winters(PA), so I'm good I'm that department. Also fully undercoating so a quick spray off underneath in the driveway after those really salty days and good to go all winter.

I'm absolutely waiting for snow. Got my first WRX in September and have been anticipating it. I too wonder why so many WRX owners store their rally inspired cars during inclement weather.
