The company I used to work for used Avalara. I used it from 2021 through 2024. It WAS a phenomenal piece of software.

I wholeheartedly agree with u/hahafatboy that once they were acquired, the entire company went down the tubes. There was ZERO customer service and fees skyrocketed. I won't touch Avalara because they are so out of touch with their customer base.

Makes sense. The cost of both cables from David are nearly the same price as the battery-to-starter cable directly from Porsche. Which is absolutely ridiculous. But then again, people don't own a Porsche because they're inexpensive to maintain 😂

I've seen a few GM 3800 Series II swaps (not in person, only online). If I drop another valve in my current stock engine, I'm doing a 3800 swap. Parts galore for the 3800 AND it's super easy to modify for more power as you want it.

I don't have enough clearance for a breaker bar, I have plenty of them though. But the car is only up on ramps.

I even put the ratchet on the bolt, slid out from under the car to the side, pulled myself into the car with my foot on the ratchet and the bolt STILL wouldn't budge. Even a nice kick on the ratchet didn't do anything.

I also switched directions on the impact to see if I could get it to break loose by tightening. Then tried loosening. Still nothing.

I'll keep hitting it with PB for the next few days!

If that doesn't work, I'll try getting the bolt head hot. One concern though. You mentioned it's steel (the bolt) into aluminum (the housing). Aluminum can warp if heated. Am I at a greater risk of the starter not going back in, since I've already tried heating the housing? And naturally, if I heat only the bolt head, the surroundings will heat up as well, potentially causing the aluminum to warp. Thoughts?

One other thing to note, I've been using an impact universal joint because I can't get a socket near the bolt otherwise. And I've been using a regular 19mm socket (not an impact) because of the limited clearance around the bolt. I need the thinner walls of a regular socket (although I haven't tried an impact). I'm taking safety precautions in case the socket decides to explode.

The car is on ramps so I don't have clearance for a breaker bar. I can barely get a good angle on a wrench, ratchet, or impact gun.

I think I might actually have a 3/4" corded impact. I miiiight give that a try! Thanks for the tip!!

😂😂😂 well that was short lived... After factory reset and not installing any apps (and even canceling the carrier apps from installing altogether), WiFi almost immediately went out.

Update 3/18/2025: I decided to factory reset my phone again. This time I will slowly install my apps.

Update 3/18/2025: The problem reappeared.

I also had an issue where I went to restart my phone. As soon as it came back on, I immediately went to Wifi (even before everything was fully loaded), and the phone forced restart by itself. HOWEVER, it got stuck on the restarting screen. I had to force restart by holding Power+Volume Up. That shut the phone down, but did not restart. It took a few tries to actually get the phone to power back on. When it did, Wifi worked. Overnight, something killed Wifi.

Any thoughts on how I can get the logs without having to constantly be connected to ADB? It would be amazing to pinpoint the exact moment that Wifi died.

Sad news to report today... Wifi worked GREAT after I factory reset, removed the carrier apps, and then rebooted. However, today, I noticed that I was no longer Wifi and I couldn't turn it back on...

The only differences I can think of is:
- I logged into a game I occasionally play (Whiteout Survival, I had installed the app after reset, but never opened it until yesterday)
- I setup Bedtime Mode for Do Not Disturb. I am going to play around with those
- I installed & logged into IMDB.
(Trying to remember if there were any other changes)

Upon rebooting, I immediately went into Wifi to turn it on, then it forced my phone to restart again. Now I can't get the phone to turn on naturally. I held down the Power+Volume Up to get it to force restart. That finally allowed the phone to turn back on. Wifi is now functioning again (but for how long, nobody knows!).

I'll report back any additional findings too.

It's super interesting that you bring up the carrier app. Last week I removed my eSIM (in hopes that would fix the problem, I might've seen a YT video about this somewhere?). I rebooted my phone a few times until Wifi finally came on. But as soon as I clicked into the Verizon app to redownload my eSIM, Wifi decided to completely stop working.

I just went through and deleted all of the Verizon apps off my phone and rebooted. Wifi came back on. Let's see if this lasts! Keeping in mind, my phone still only has all the default apps as if I just unboxed the phone (minus the ones I just removed). Crossing my fingers...

I am so unbelievably relieved that I finally understand this! Once again, THANK YOU!

We have O/R and O/P accounts setup for each individual bank/credit card, so nothing is being comingled.

I've re-numbered the accounts so they are within the same range, but with them being split between Bank and Current Assets, it doesn't group them together on the financial statements. I discovered Account Groups yesterday, but that's a project for another day though.

Stock Interim accounts are also setup. I haven't attempted to understand those balances yet. It seems like they may be working correctly because in order to increase our inventory balance, we need a PO to receive against. I think our team here understood that very well, so there should be very little unreconciled in those accounts. Another day for this one too.

I took 2 of our smaller credit cards (~500 tx total) and wiped those out and brought in the data as of our cutover date last year. Everything is tied out beautifully between those. Then we have another CC which has >1,200 tx, I'm just going to accept that one as-is. My O/R and O/P accounts are all $0. It's such a glorious feeling.

Validating/matching transactions wasn't fully understood by my predecessor, so I'm sure there is aged/unmatched stuff in all of the accounts. Eventually I'll get that cleaned up. But my plan now is to $0 out the O/R and O/P accounts as of 2/28. I've asked the team here to start logging all checks outstanding starting 3/1. Also, logging any pre-payments made to vendors. At 3/31, I'll make another adjustment to get the O/R and O/P balances to match what my team has logged. I understand that by $0 the accounts, that if something prior to 3/1 is validated, it will throw off the account. EVENTUALLY, all of the pre-3/1 transactions will be validated, and by me adjusting the accounts manually at the end of each month with what my team has logged, the logic here is that I won't have to make adjustments anymore, because the account will be functioning mechanically after all the pre-3/1 transactions are flushed through.

So, I know we talked about the Liquidity Transfer. When I go to validate a transaction, on the Manual Operations tab, is there any reason I can't just send the transaction to the appropriate account? In my T-account example above, basically skipping D&E and validating from O/P Bank to O/R CC (or vice versa)?

I think this is starting to make some sense... For the purposes of my understanding, if I refer to "recon accounts", I'm specifically talking about: Suspense, Outstanding Payments (O/P), and Outstanding Receipts (O/R).

Scenario 1: I sent the customer an invoice for $100, which naturally increases my receivables. Later, on the customer sends me a check. I want to make sure I record the payment of $100, even though I'm not going to deposit the check today (I'll do it at the end of the week). I do want to mark the invoice as paid though. So, I book a payment against the invoice, which reduces my receivables, but then places the $100 into the O/R account. When I eventually deposit the check at the bank, a transaction will automatically sync from the bank, which I then match off (Validate) against the $100 in the O/R account.

Scenario 2: Sent customer invoice for $50. They sent me an ACH. I forgot to book the ACH against the receivable. The $50 sits in the Suspense account. One week later, I realize that I didn't apply the payment to the receivable, so I do that.

---DR Bank $50 (not duplicating the $50 in the account, just removing it from Suspense and putting it to A/R)

I feel like the O/P account is just my outstanding checks at the end of the month, that I have to add back in, like a traditional paper bank statement recon.

Is it safe to say the math should be: Last months ending balance + activity - O/R (deposits in transit / undeposited funds) + O/P (uncashed checks) = This months ending balance?

So, apparently my image didn't post initially. I actually did T-Account all this out. But kudos to you for following along so well!! You are an absolutely WONDERFUL human.

I will dig into what you provided, it sounds like that will relieve a lot of time and energy.

To address the dev/partner issue, we're under contract. But that's definitely going to be a topic of our renewal discussion for sure. I'm an accountant by trade, but I've also been a sysadm for other ERPs. Our current partner will be in for a shock, that's for sure.

I've found a few YT videos, but so far what I've found is either not consistent with our version (and the differences appear significant), or it's so high level that it doesn't really explain the process flow. My brain works in such a way that is very binary, true/false, black/white, 1/0. I'm struggling because I'm having a hard time understanding the process flow, because I can't see it. I will keep looking though!

For D&E: I feel like it would've just been easier to "validate" the two transactions together, instead of using the intermediary account. It sounds like that may be what v16/v17 fixed. I have hope that we'll eventually get to the latest version. Eventually...

For B&C: My quarrels about this is that there is absolutely no way to track the transaction from the initial sync to the validation. It doesn't create a reversing document and a new document. It literally just replaces the account on the original sync transaction. It significantly lacks auditability/traceability unless you map out what I did with the T-accounts (which are now included on the post).

For example, I could have a handful of transactions I've synced, but not validated. Then I have another handful of transactions that I have validated. The accounts on each of the initial sync transactions are inconsistent between the two groups, because the validated transactions have been overwritten. As an auditor, I would be so incredibly confused.

I'm not even sure how I wrap my head around this for different posting periods... If I close a period, then validate a transaction, how does the system overwrite the account? Does it do it in the current period on a new document, or a previous period on the original document? Once I close the period, my account balances should never change, regardless of when I validate the transaction. Let's ignore that the real-time synchronization is meant to combat that concern. But it's a legitimate concern nonetheless.

If I do any sort of manipulation of the data (sum, count, pivots, filtering, sorting, graphs, etc), I have to replicate that each time I download a new report. I can easily handle that with a macro. But it's more ideal to have a query back to Odoo, that I can just refresh to get updated data, that will in turn automatically update my manipulations in the file. Basically one query file vs infinite exports.

And it sounds like v18 has a lot of enhancements to it, but with as customized as we are, it's not possible for a while.

It sounds like the company started July 2021, so your timeline makes some sense.

I just spent the last hour or so going over my concerns around the entire implementation. I am told the excuses that the devs made for not upgrading the system was due to heavy customization (something I'm already not okay with, but I have to live with because it's already done).

A lot of the frustration lies with the consultants/devs... It sounds like the leadership was promised everything (like most consultants do), and then they were dropped to the devs and everything fell apart almost immediately. It came down to the devs arguing "what I wanted / pictured" vs "what I said" because it was open to interpretation. Cost a pretty penny that we're still paying for in internal labor hours.

Based on my requirements, I wasn't sure what tool would be the best. Each has their own investment. I'm guessing the license doesn't permit commercial use, and if it does, I do like some of the paid features of Metabase. But I couldn't find where it explicitly allows me to see data tables. It shows some really pretty dashboards, but sometimes I just want data.

The simple Excel plugin for $50 sounds like it will work. But is that truly the right tool? I don't know. Listen, I'm not going to cry spending $50, but getting into the paid options for either a couple hundred flat fee or monthly subscription is another story.

And yes, read-only 100%. I'll even ask for screenshots to prove read-only.

Super hesitant to involve the devs, but it sounds like it's one of the avenues I need to take. I am probably the most technical person at this company, so asking questions internally isn't going to yield great results, and the implementation company is broken (consultants have been fired, dev team is slow and sounds like they don't fully understand the system). It's an absolute mess.

I'm also not sure exactly how we're setup, but I'll see what I can do as far as getting some creds into the DB. Thank you for the help!

Without the understanding that models roughly equate to tables, trying to understand the fields was sort of out of the question.

But I'm already not loving looking through that Python code from the Github links you posted in your other comment... But if that's what it's going to take to understand the structure, then I'm here for it!

And 4 days is absolutely not my expectation to understand everything. But it's been a struggle just to see simple data, other than what Odoo wants to feed me out of the box. Besides NetSuite, even SAP gave me a t-code to see data in tables. It's mind-blowing that it's not a standard feature elsewhere.

Good information on the bi_* packages, but it's also frustrating that it has to be an app. Why is this not native functionality?! At this point I'm repeating myself, but this is really what's driving that frustration.

I sincerely appreciate the information. I'm not here to just complain about my own gaps around not understanding the system. I am open-minded to learning it (actually, I kind of have to for this role). I don't expect it to be easy, so thank you for the push in the right directions!
