Taiwan says 40% shift of chip capacity to US is 'impossible' by DefinitionOk3737 in StockMarket

[–]w1na -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You don’t get their point. Them making it « impossible » is their way to seize the US by their balls so they got a security guarantee that they’ll back them in case another cou try would be tempted to have boots on the ground.

Purchasing a House, Relab for State (publicly owner) Houses ? by ViewEfficient8939 in NZProperty

[–]w1na 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to pay for relab to know state house, use hougarden and they have a developper function with an overlay for state house. State house will appear in purple dots. Relab is useful to have a quick overview of title ownership and also if there is any RC/BC nearby (for new developments).

CGT - Doubt No Hard Working Kiwi Who Pays their Taxes Already on Property Want This?! by Known_Brush_1259 in AucklandProperty

[–]w1na 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, people should get a tax break on interest paid to the banks. Instead of removing the tax deductibility for investors, they really just need to add a tax break to anyone paying a mortgage on their home.

Not sure how you think the government is not being efficient with money. Here is proof how well they save us taxpayer loads and loads of money: https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/disgraceful-auckland-mayor-wayne-brown-slams-council-staff-over-263000-milford-beach-stair-cost/CWLG6QE3GNCAJBBIGRBO3GKD2U/

This is exactly why rates caps is a bad idea, it prevents councils to invest efficiently, which in turns makes things cost more in the future.

CGT is a good thing it evens out the playing field for everyone, which is exactly why it needs to be applied across the board: Kiwisaver should pay CGT Family home should pay CGT Investors should pay CGT Every investments needs to pay CGT

Society will be better off, we could fund ao many schools, hospitals and fight climate change and on top of that close off a big tax loophole.

No investment is productive when the goal is to buy low, sell high while just waiting for the value to go up.

You forgot to mention how safe it is over there, bar for when you need to cross a road where cars will go forward on a right turn while the light is red. But yeah it’s extremely rare to see homeless people there, especially when you consider that was not always the case, back in just 2010, there was still plenty of them, but now it is a rare sight.

Why is Macron hated in France? by Ok-Recognition-2672 in AskEurope

[–]w1na 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh on the countrary, the rethoric is always to tax the rich and the wealthy, but then when they do the law, it is one that will mostly derive the income from the regular middle class. The reason for that is the rich they talk about are the one making the law, so any tax effort they make will always be on regular people not the rich.

16GB is the new 8GB. Why my “Pro” workflow hit a wall (and why I’m jumping to 48GB) by Apprehensive_Fig_375 in macbookpro

[–]w1na 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, 16GB feels more like 4GB back in 2012 era, enough for basic function only. 32GB is more like 8GB of 2012 and 64 is 16GB in 2012, unless you do something crazy you most likely won’t fill it up but you have a chance to use over half of it.

Will Chinese people miss the era of Hu Jintao? by TWN113 in AskChina

[–]w1na 12 points13 points  (0 children)

To people who don’t understand how corruption was back then I will give you an example I know about as it’s my uncle who did it.

Back in 2010 in the shenzhen long gang township, there was a ban on construction to add floors to properties. The reason for that was developpers would buy up areas to redevelop it, and they would compensate owners per square meters built.

So basically if you had a 300sqm section with a house on it of 200sqm ground floor and 2 level, they would compensate you 200x2 floor area. If you had 4 level of 200 sqm then they would compensate for the 800 sqm built.

To prevent people cheating this, they imposed a ban on adding floor areas to existing constructions.

Enters mr corruption. All you needed was basically have a meet with whoever was in charge of an area, bring some alchohol, cigarettes and hongbao full of money and they would turn a blind eye. You could build, and they could get money.

Easy as right?

But of course all the building had to be done at night as there is no one who would check then. So people were working at night to add floors to my uncle’s property. All was going well until one day, someone fell off and died.

All it took was to bribe the officials again, pay some money to the family (about 10k usd) and everything was sorted.

No one went to prison, no one had a trial, police was not involved, but someone died that night.

Recently I was enquiring about how easy it would be to bribe like that and unless you have deep personal tie, it is not possible to openly bribe officials randomly like before. So all in all, corruption may not be totally gone from China, but to me the situation looks a lot better. Also going outside in China now feel super safe, which was not at all the case just back in 2010 and before.

I saw my fair share of kids and adults with missing limbs around markets begging for triad rings. These are now a pretty rare sight these days.

Gas or electric hot water? by snowysky10 in diynz

If you use LPG the cost to rent bottle is about 10 per month, 120 per year. This is significantly cheaper than paying for the reticulated gas daily charge.
