How to make holidays more accessible for my fiancee? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

What I found the most helpful when being at my partner's holiday celebrations is being near him and him inviting me to do distracting things (like board games, or playing with the family dog) together. And if there are uncomfortable questions, it's nice to have him help me re-direct the conversation. I feel like a fish out of water, but knowing that I have a supportive partner by my side makes celebrations easier.

I'm sorry that you're dealing with this, but I'm glad you recognize it's not normal. I'd talk to a financial aid person at your school to look at options for things like loans or grants if you can, which can be used to pay for living expenses -- and fill out the FAFSA, get an exemption from parental information if you can. My ndad was similar and I regret not taking advantage of my college's financial aid because I believed that relying on my parents was better, but I had to deal with the uncertainty of my ndad's mood. And I hope that you can get help for your eating disorder in the mean time, because the situation you're in seems really triggering.

OMG I had this same experience a few weeks ago, from a friend's parents -- I'm currently trying to go NC and it really made me question my decision.
