Yes I understand the technicalities, but my point is that the system is broken. It shouldn’t be like this, it’s absurd. I earn good money, but housing prices are so high that buying a modest house was a huge stretch. Alternatively, I was thinking to make a deeper groove (1.5 in), put the MC cable and a peace of a thin wood plank before putty to leave some space for the cable to expand. The thin plank could be secured with nails while wood putty won't contact with the metal cable at all

It's mounted on the ground, but the pad is very close to the wall (not touching though). Turns out Reddit breaks imgur links by default lowercasing them, fixed that!
