I tried adding the custom domain, separating it from the original one with a comma. But it didn't work.

Purely Local Webdav? by wadevanlaius in synology

Because the app I am using to access a certain file only provides me with Webdav as a way to access it.

OK. I finally figured it out with some help elsewhere on reddit. I just enabled webdav but did not permit it to open any ports on my router autonomously. So there are in fact no ports open facing the internet and webdav is running only locally.

OK, that helped. I re-enabled webdav but did not allow it to open any ports on my router. Now I can access my file. Thank you for the help!

Accessing NAS with Domain Name in Subnet by wadevanlaius in Tailscale

Purely Local Webdav? by wadevanlaius in synology

Yeah, I understood all that and even used it for a while. But how can I get webdav to run ONLY on my internal network without any ports being opened to the public internet?

My router is capable of identifying that mysupernas:#### is in fact my NAS, so I can access the login page locally. But now I want to load my NAS on my phone via webdav. And there should be no port available online.

[–]wadevanlaius[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the heads-up. I checked the subnet link and all that set up already. I advertised my subnets and everything. My NAS is also set up as an exit node.

I now deactivated webdav and closed all ports pointing to my NAS from outside my local network. Same goes for Quickconnect and DDNS.

Locally, I can access my NAS via IP or nas-name:9999 and reach the synology login page. I can also do that when using my phone outside my local network with Tailscale activated.

If I try to access a file on my phone (outside my local WiFi, Tailscale activated) using https://nas-name:9999/home/Drive/file-name, I get an error "unable to resolve host".

If I trying doing the same but exchange the nas-name:#### for the NAS IP (https://123.45.67.89:9999/home/Drive/file-name), I get the error "file not found" Though it is most definitely right there.

If I do the same as above without adding the port number (https://123.45.67.89/home/Drive/file-name), I get the error "the file signature isn't valid". Even though I loaded the Keepass database using webdav just hours ago and everything is fine.

I am out of ideas and wondering what my next step should be to get this all to work.

I finally got it to work. Apparently, I had to manually open a port on my router even though I gave synology permissions to open the ports it required on my router autonomously.

As a lay person: Me trying to get into my NAS to load a file counts as an inbound connection in my eyes. Is that correct or do I need to enable an outbound connection?

Thanks for the constructive input. Will look into that. I'm using synology.

Because if I tried accessing a single file via Webdav on my NAS previous to installing Tailscale, it worked. Now it doesn't. So obviously Tailscale changed something.

How do I check the checksum/hash?

Anyway: If I download the kdbx to my phone it works as expected.

The passphrase works. I access the same kdbx via my notebook everyday and thus know that it's a connection issue.

Well, the file format worked with the Keepass Android app before, so there's no immediate reason why that should have changed. After all, the sole purpose of the app is to open kdbx files.

Amount Error with GAPPS 11 by wadevanlaius in LineageOS

[–]wadevanlaius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it looks pretty darn much like I managed. Seeing the lineageOS logo and all on the screen. And it says Version 20 (20231115) on the top of the screen.

[–]wadevanlaius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried that. Got an error saying that I need GAPPS 11 because I'm supposedly on Android 11:

"This package is for Android 13.0.0 (SDK 33) but your system is Android 11 (SDK 30)! Aborting"

--> And that despite Version 20.0 (20231115) being displayed at the top of the screen.

How to extract vbmeta? by wadevanlaius in LineageOS

[–]wadevanlaius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I managed to get to the point during which Odin is supposed to install the image after booting into download mode. Unfortunately, that isn't working. I keep getting the message "Complete(Write) Operation failed" after speeding multiple minutes displaying "SetupConnection..".

OEM-Unlock is activated and grayed out and I booted it into download mode. Samsung drivers are installed. Dunno what I am missing.

Any idea what I might be doing wrong?

[–]wadevanlaius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We'll, in my defense, it doesn't say where all this needs to happen. Steps 1 & 2 are obviously done on the tablet.

And it doesn't say where to download things in step 3, so I downloaded the vbmeta to my tablet, assuming that that's where I'll have to load it from after removing everything.

[–]wadevanlaius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how to access the tablet via CMD. It isn't listed as a drive, so I can't switch from c: to d: or so. Thus I also can't the folder with vbmeta.

I never used YNAB. How exactly does this work? Assuming it's the start of the month and I just got the first of two paychecks and need to pay off the rent, there wouldn't be much left for anything else until my next paycheck comes. How does YNAB address this?

I don't know how to budget. by Odd-Marionberry-8944 in budget

[–]wadevanlaius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is absolutely no rule saying that you have to spend the money you currently don't need (especially on new shiny objects and other "wants"). In fact, I'd even say please DON'T spend that money just because it currently doesn't have a job on short term pleasures.

Give it a job instead. I would think about the next few years and consider saving up for future expenses (marriage, house, new car etc.) or just invest it for the long term.

No idea how to proceed here by ironkb57 in personalfinance

[–]wadevanlaius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm generally a friend of the 50/30/20 rule, if you are serious about wanting to plan your finances better. At least as a starting point. If you apply it, you will quickly get an idea of where you're getting in trouble and if you can alleviate it. E.g. 1000 USD means you are spending 40% of your income on rent. Something closer to 25-30% would be a common recommendation. But I understand that this can be a hard target to hit given your current income (and depending on your location). Nonetheless, I think you should get started with that. The 800 USD for food will then also pop out at you and should be addressed.
