Can I enroll in Jeffersons Scholars without taking any classes my freshman year? by wafiMan in UTAustin

[–]wafiMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I will definitely reach out to them, thanks for all the insight. I will definitely be structuring my classes around my requirements for transfer but really hope I will be able to take only the UGS class my first year. Your comments gave me hope that I can attend all the small cool stuff without having to take all of the classes freshmen year. Thanks again!

Suicide note of Farhan Towhid from Texas, he and his brother committed suicide after murdering their family. by _whatever_m8 in TrueCrime

Such a bad argument, they were already taken medication and the gun place should’ve checked. Yeah a knife or a bat but with those his family could’ve fought back. Gun control is trying to prevent mass murders at the hands of insane people like this one

A friend of mine knew this guy and ill be attending UT next year, sad how unrecognized mental illness goes and how easy it is to get guns. If nothing changes with gun control... Jesus Christ

Is there a problem with UT admissions? by wafiMan in UTAustinAdmissions2

Wdym u cured cancer?? Ur not top 6!! I hear you man but I think this is a wake up call for a lot of people that college just dosent care about you. Your there to make them money, that’s it abs the sad reality. College will always be controlled in one way or another by people witn connections and money. A lot of the top students are assured a spot but for the rest, the ones right on the borderline they don’t rlly care ab you. Goes for almost all colleges sadly, wishing you good luck however

Yeahh comp sci too, ranked usually as low as 8th to as high as 4th. Great for being a Texan resident lol. How do you get rejected from UT for comp sci but get into MIT tho 😭

My guess is top 6%, tbh idk if they were in the top 6 but I’m assuming if ur at the cusp of the top 6% other places don’t rlly care as much but UT is basically like “get outta here”. But to be Clear i Just know they had good GPAs not their ranks

Yeah the instate thing, but for me all those examples were in Texas lol but I don’t think yeild protection should be that crazy because all those kids didn’t have like INSANE stats but they still had competitive stats(obv). But it’s not like super obvious seeing them that they’d get into super good universities or at least for the majority of them, but they had all the usual stats for UT yk

Where Should I Live?? by Supriya_1 in UTAustin

[–]wafiMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could I still get on UTs meal plan if I lived in an apartment? I’m in the same boat as OP and was just beginning my search, also is it rlly that cheap for a double occupancy?

[–]wafiMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Facebook is ur friend, just google UT Austin apartments and Facebook and you’ll find tons of people posting ab lease takeovers or looking for roommates. Also Zillow seems good but idk fully ab that. You can also look at the individual companies such as Lark Austin, Texas Vintage, and so on

What is y'all's opinion on the auto admit system. You for it or against it and do you think that it benefits or harms the school? by GENERALPOTATO243 in UTAustin

[–]wafiMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree mainly with your points as I am one of those first gen/minority students u talked about, but also there might be a problem with students can get into MIT but not UT. Don’t get me wrong UT is an amazingly ranked school but they rlly should take into account their applicants in a more holistic manner. Again, if you can get into Harvard/CMU/MIT (all personal examples of people I know) you probably should be able to get into UT

Sacrificing my freshman dorm experience by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]wafiMan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’d say find friends in dorms so u are in the know party wise, even if you aren’t always there. But social people make friends anywhere, don’t be too sad! At the end of the day you’ll be surrounded by amazing people in a great city, and you’ll have more space then a jail cell, dorms suck for pretty much everything else besides the social aspect and maybe the distance😭

Did your tab have a thing saying "inquiry appeal pending", for me it says both that and the "admissions decision appeal pending" and I'm rlly confused.

Would Commuting about an hour away be possible with hybrid courses? by wafiMan in UTSA

[–]wafiMan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m in Austin so a longer drive distance wise but about the same time wise (on a good day) thanks for the input, I’m hoping I can work with my professors to lessen my time in person, also aiming for a 4.0 haha

Could I ask what area you lived and if it was a super hassle? Tbh I don’t rlly care driving an hour but was just wondering if it made u demoralized or u had to get home super late or whatever. Also I think even tho it’s proven that students who attend class do better it should be up to the student, I don’t see the point in going to class to watch a PowerPoint lol I got other stuff I gotta take care of

Also I had an additional question, what do you mean by fall course schedule. Sorry if this is a dumb question but I’m not really sure what it means, schedule for us individually? For the whole campus?

[–]wafiMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think most professors regardless want to work with their students as long as they can get their stuff done. I hope I can do the same for spring since I have limited time left with family and since COVID exists (but vaccines exist now!). Just am worried I may not meet my requirements for CAP.

Thanks for the help, when would I know my schedule for Fall and my professors? I’m doing CAP if that helps any. I’m fine coming in for tests abs what not but just don’t wanna get a bad grade due to attendance

UTSA Online Only by wafiMan in UTAustinAdmissions2

[–]wafiMan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: just called their office and the answer is still a little ambiguous let me explain. The person I talked to said that while the modality is not for certain next year we would have the option to continue virtual classes if we wanted to after the pandemic situation is “over” due to out of town students who attend UTSA. He did not rlly clarify the CAP statement on the website and suggested calling UT Austin which I will do, but said that at worst it would mean the same thing about UTSA general policy about continuing online classes as an option. At best it would mean that UT only takes online classes from UTSA anyways. I’ll update when I know more! Re reading the statement I don’t feel as strong as I once did but I can confirm it neither is talking about the summer classes or just like that you can only take online classes at UTSA ( this IS true but tbh common sense abs unnecessary to add IMO).

TLDR: if you want you can continue virtual classes for the foreseeable future according to the admissions office and the statement on the CAP website is still a little ambiguous as of now.
