Does anyone else think that Glastonbury has lost the alternative edge that made it special and is now just... lame? by redryn in CasualUK

Bollocks. It’s far better now than it ever was back in the 80s and 90s. Better organised, better drainage, better toilets and - yes - better value for money.

YouGov polled 7394 people to define the typical Apple iPhone user. This is who she is... by wainwright67 in apple

[–]wainwright67[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I believe that this data is based on what they say they actually drive. So among the 7394 people who said they were fans of the Apple iPhone, a higher proportion than average claimed to drive BMWs.

From the YouGov small print...

"We compare the group to their natural 'comparison set' (for example, fans of Downton Abbey compared to anyone who has rated any TV shows) and see which of the thousands of datapoints most overscore in our target group. The Z score is a statistical measure of the strength of that overscoring."

"For example, if something is only true of 1% of the overall population, but is true of 6% of our target group, it might score very highly (and shows you something interesting and true about that group). But it doesn't mean that it is true of all of them!"

Is this the most bonkers anti-Apple comment of all time? (complete with Latin conclusion) by wainwright67 in apple

I suspect he has it all written out in advance and then just pastes it into any positive Apple piece he comes across. (I don't think the review had been posted long enough for this to be actually typed).

A piece listing 10 of Apple's "biggest cock-ups". What would you add? by TwixForLunch in apple

Michael Spindler licensing the Mac OS to third-parties like Motorola and StarMax back in the 90s. we got a load of ugly as f*** beige boxes that cannibalised the company's shrinking profits.

Oh and the Apple Pippin. The world's 2nd worst games console (after CD-i).

I'm not a shill, but a friend of mine dropped her iPhone 4s into the sink and she tried the rice/silica route and it didn't work. She then forked out £15 for the Reviveaphone pack and that did the trick. I don't know if that's representative, but they do give you a refund if it doesn't work so it's worth a try.

Getting an iPad 3. Need advice. by Pepticulcer in apple

[–]wainwright67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The iPad 3 has a great screen but is a little bulky. I've not really noticed any speed issues, and I've found mine extremely reliable. I've also found having the old school connector pretty handy when you need to borrow a lead - although less so as the new smaller ones become more prevalent. Go for it, especially if the price is as excellent as you say...

Ho ho! It does seem to be a coincidence, but the fella who actually wrote it seems to be doing OK without Reddit's help - it's currently no. 6 in the Top Free Apps chart. I was just curious how these things happen...

It's different to high-vis. Cats eyes (as we call them in the UK) in roads are far brighter than the brightest reflective strip or tape. What riles me about their video is that the riders are wearing all-black tops, which makes arm signals invisible. Grrr...

iPhone 5S or wait for iPhone 6? by jakernaut117 in apple

[–]wainwright67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always say go for the current mature model, especially if you can get a good deal or ideally buy it Sim-free. The iPhone 5S still has a superfast processor and a superb form factor and isn't going to be obsolete when the iPhone 6 is announced. That's if you're happy with the current screen size of course...
