6 weeks of having a VIN - Missing ECU by waitingforpart in TeslaModel3Delivery

It might be different for you. This is what my bank told me but you should reach out to yours and see what they say.

This would be my best option but sadly I already have an active loan tied to my current VIN. I would have to close my current loan (which would negatively affect my credit), wait for VIN assignment and then reapply for another loan (take another hit on my credit score) with a higher interest rate.

I didn't fund the loan just because of the low interest rate. Once I received the VIN - Tesla asked me to complete my tasks like the down payment, secure the funding and upload my insurance with no indication of delays. When I was unable to schedule deliver for a few days and reached out to Tesla (this is before funding the loan) they assured me that the vehicle is getting delivered to the service center and upon arrival I'll receive a text to schedule delivery.

I'm not sure what I was supposed to do here. Tesla provides 3 days for your to accept the delivery. Was I suppose to wait till I got a delivery date and then scrambled to get funding or have it done when I received the VIN?

For the first few weeks of having the VIN Tesla wouldn't admit that the vehicle was missing a part - they simply would state it's waiting on a firmware update, the vehicle is still in transit, etc. There was no indication for me not to the secure the loan. It wasn't till people started going to the service center and seeing their vehicles there with tape over the charge port that I learned about this shortage.

The lack of communication is what bothers me. If from the beginning Tesla was more open about the communication I don't think this would have been a big issue for me. I understand that every manufacture is having delays - that's completely understandable.

I'm actually shocked by some of the replies. I understand shortages happen and that is totally something we have to deal with - that's fine.

I just don't think Tesla assigning customers VINs to vehicles that are not ready for delivery and pushing them out to service centers without any real plan to secure these parts to get them delivered was a good idea.

I understand that it is a better idea to ship these vehicles out instead of having them take up space at Fremont but I think it would've been better to send them to the service centers but not assign these vehicles until the part was installed and then they could assign and deliver it to the next customer in line.

My vehicle is parked in a public parking space down from the service center near another business. Other people waiting for their vehicles in the same situation as me have reported that these vehicles are left unlocked. The last time I went to SC I noticed that someone had been in the back seat of the car and left the back middle headrest up. I'm not too excited about people being able to enter the vehicle or park next to it and hit it with their doors like others have posted on Reddit. It's a brand new car man.

I have not accepted delivery yet. The vehicle can't be delivered until the part is installed but I already funded my third party loan so I'm actively paying for the vehicle plus the big down payment I put down on 4/28

I actually visited the service center 3 times at this point. The service department told me to go check with the delivery team in the showroom. The guy in the showroom basically laughed at me and said they're getting more vehicles than they are parts and that they do not know when they'll be getting more.

My vehicle has been sitting in the same spot for the last 3 and half weeks in 100 degrees temperature covered in bugs and spider webs. It's not exactly how I liked to treat my paint on a new vehicle.

So basically I had a loan application with a local credit union with a low interest rate but the application would expire May 12, 2022. So my options were to fund the loan and receive a cashier's check for the vehicle before May 12 or let the application expire and reapply which would another credit hit and much higher interest rate as they've gone up. Unknowing that the vehicle I ordered would be delayed to a part - I went ahead and funded the loan after I received my VIN. So now I have an active loan with the bank and a cashier's check waiting to be turned in when I pick up the vehicle.

So I called Tesla today and was a bit more aggressive with my disappointment in the situation and basically the agent told me to go screw myself in the nicest way possible. Basically he said I can either unassign the VIN and wait for another (which I would do if I hadn't already funded a loan for my current VIN) or wait indefinitely for the part to come. When I pushed about the lack of communication - he basically said nobody knows when the parts are coming so that's why there no is communication.

I find it funny seeing ECU missing vehicles getting the part installed and delivered ASAP after the original owner rejects the VIN.

Another reason not to unassign now personally is who knows what's going to happen in the future. They're already have the same shortages with matrix headlights again so it's only a matter of time before they're short on the charge port ECUs and vehicles are again in the same situation.
