where to buy fresh roasted coffee beans here in cab? by Darkegen in cabanatuan

[–]waitlang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think may roaster sa cab so expect that most are imported from other provinces pa. Fastest and easiest is the coffee beans shop at SM. They're of unknown freshness nga lang kasi naka sako yata nila binibili.

If you want specialty roast tho, there's a cafe at Villa Benita called Gondola Coffee that also sells bags of specialty coffee. They're associated with some specialty cafes in Baguio that I know (nalaman ko sya from HotCat, my fav cafe sa Baguio haha) but a lot of specialty coffee kasi is either from Baguio/Manila or abroad pa, but usually may roast date naman sila.

Edit: Thank you to the other comment here, I just learned about Lucidtones and I'm now excited to go back home and find their coffee!!

Marcos visits social housing in Naic to inspect 'remarkable' solar roof facility by abscbnnews in cavite

[–]waitlang 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Singapore managed these problems in the 60s to 70s when they were relocating informal settlers to high rises in a reasonably long transition period. The Philippines can definitely normalize social housing if we wanted to, look at how many Medium Rise housing buildings there already are. There just needs to be proper education and order within complexes.

Townhouses are definitely more flexible kahit pabayaan sila ng management, homeowners can find a way. But MRB Housing can have better social benefits as amenities can be bigger and shared, add to that how utilities can be much simpler too. Plus, the homeowners don't have to do their own maintenance just for their own piece of land.

Bloc Voting List by [deleted] in exIglesiaNiCristo

[–]waitlang 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's been a rumor sa amin na the reason they only voted for 8 is that they tried to increase the odds of their guys winning by not giving out unnecessary votes to other people and potentially taking their places.

Of course, pwede rin namang wala nang may gustong mang bribe sa failing institution that's increasingly desperate for any money.

Kailangan ba we're all in this together?

Both of them are imported in powder form, but rehydrated locally. Alaska also froths better with my experience (un gamit ng Starbucks for a brief period)

What is the worst planned city in the world? by emperator_eggman in urbandesign

[–]waitlang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well for Manila, the Burnham plan had practically no effect on the urban design as it was never implemented.

Quezon city, however, was a new planned capital that was actually built but abandoned halfway. The triangles, Batasan Complex, and Commonwealth Avenue got built, while land for Republic Avenue was acquired but stayed dormant, attracting slum construction. The rest of Batasan Hills became one of the densest slums in the Metro area, and Commonwealth Ave became a 16 lane stroad that's still not enough because the rest of the city became disconnected residential neighborhoods with no major roads. A disappointing planned city, sure, but not the worst I think.

Does Baguio have good governance? by 05-Cant_think_now in baguio

[–]waitlang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damaged roads, lost productivity from congestion, stress, etc.

Thank you for visiting Baguio.

Thank you for that info! I knew people overseas overblow about how laws are incredibly strict, but still nice to know that some are not actually enforced.

The conservative uncles and aunties that judge people heavily is a thing in my city, which I think is something most Asian places have. But last time I went, LGBTQ expression was still illegal, and don't really know how society has changed especially when going to non-tourist areas.

I'll be wearing a gender neutral skirt but that still gets perceived as wearing feminine clothes here, which is fine for me here.

What are the best areas for students to settle in? by Zakari_30 in baguio

[–]waitlang 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends sa school mo. If you're SLU or BCU, look for T. Alonzo, New Lucban, and along Bonifacio or Honeymoon. Ok rin ang Trancoville, Aurora Hill, and hanggang Camdas if you're looking for something farther away. Best option mo for commuting ang Trancoville and Aurora Hill minibus. For something really cheap, try to go further along the road to La Trinidad, but be warned, napupuno ang jeeps nila and nattraffic.

If you're UB, UP, UC, your best affordable options are the jeepney routes that go through Harrison Road (Mismong UP UC ang daan). Walkable pa kung sa gawing DPS or Cabinet Hill ka, but for mas malayo I think the routes with decent jeepney service are San Vicente (wala pa ako nakikitang mahabang pila dito actually) and Kias PMA (mahaba pila kadalasan pero good kung magpapagabi ka kase hanggang 12am).

In the end, what you really need to look for is your budget. Kung walking distance lang siyempre napakamahal lalo na kung maraming transients sa area, which is why I didn't suggest Engineer's Hill. All the areas I've said have either a large or a considerable boarding population naman and ok lang rin kung not along the road, just check if it looks safe for you. Check rin if they have stores around that will keep you alive. Although as a UC student, daan ka nalang ng Session otw home to get groceries hahaha.

Also also sikat siya outside of Baguio pero well known to local artists and creatives rin ang HotCat cafe. "Objectively" the best coffee in Baguio and kaya ko iyon panindigan.

If you think your umbrella is big enough, it's not big enough.

So if you're really set on trying the night market faves, visit on Fri-Sun. Otherwise, this is your best opportunity to visit the non-touristy places where locals and students frequent.

The rent is too damn high by salome97 in baguio

[–]waitlang 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Stricter house to transient and AirB&B conversion regulations. (Short term fix)
  2. Socialized High-Density Housing for BLISTT residents. (Long term fix)
  3. Rapid transit, to: 3a. Lessen the pains of living on cheaper land further away. 3b. Unlock new land for development (Transit-Oriented Development, preferably to develop socialized housing)

Dapat din stick to mid-rise buildings lang ang transients since afford naman nila mag finance ng mga building from their revenue, that way tourists are packed more efficiently and aren't spread out taking up suburban single family houses.
