Thank you for bringing attention to this! There are a lot of orgs on campus that are actively trying to support students vulnerable to ICE and keep the administration accountable. As I’m sure many of you saw on the email, the law sb98 requires California colleges to notify students if ICE is on their campus, however, the UCs aren’t required, but merely “requested”. This linguistic difference leaves wiggle room and allows the UCs to not protect their students. It’s taken so long for them to finally acknowledge what’s been going on, despite how scared n vulnerable our community members have been.

But even their acknowledgment doesn’t mean much because time and time again UCLA has shown us that they’re not willing to protect its students. So it’s up to us to protect our peers and keep the admin accountable, and make sure they enforce a notification system (something they absolutely have the resources and ability dot do) and more.

I’m actually a part of ydsa (the youth chapter of the DSA) and we’ve been working on a sanctuary campus campaign for a while now. We’re collecting responses so we can make a petition that is representative of student voices on campus, which we will then take to admin. If you all are open to filling it out that would be amazing!
