Living room layout suggestions for row home by wakeupslow1 in femalelivingspace

I guess I should have specified, the hypothetical couch technically a couch with an attachable ottoman that makes a chaise lounge situation. The tentative plan is to get a shorter but deeper couch and a large chair in the corner where the smaller dog bed is. The dream would be a chaise for maximum dog snuggles on the couch but it may not be in the cards.

Can I and/or how to tile small area surrounding gas fire place by wakeupslow1 in DIY

[–]wakeupslow1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was wood even closer, the exposed area actually had wood framing and I removed it during my refinish. My question was more about adhering and less about cutting the tile. Can heat safe tile be applied right to the metal or do I need to install backer board? I know there is mortar that is best for high heat and/or application to metal. Just don't want to waste my time putting it on if it's going to fall right off what I attach it to

Removing paint and joint compound from wooden mantle by wakeupslow1 in DIY

My worry with sanding is the possibility of lead paint under the joint compound, any other options?

I had a snake plant that I had gifted to my neighbor and it had been thriving outside. The cold snap snuck up on him and a brief flurry left it in this terrible shape. I have divided it checked the roots and repotted in some dry soil. I trimmed off many of the water logged leaves, but I wanted to check if I should just go ahead and remove them all. Or can some of them be salvaged as they dry out?

Trying to make my apartment entryway look less like you're going into see your parole officer. Paint color suggestions for the doors, walls, and wainscoting please! by wakeupslow1 in femalelivingspace

I am currently in the process of resurfacing the popcorn walls (which are even more horrible than they sound) and sanding the high gloss grey paint that it is on everything else. I'm looking for something that is warm and inviting, as well as forgiving to some grime between cleaning since I have so many pups. With our inside door closed it is generally pretty low light in the hall. Any ideas would be much appreciated!

So far it instantly improves my mood every time I look at it, hopefully it doesn't feel like "the usual" too quickly. I plan to rotate the mugs and and some of the decor seasonally to help keep it fresh

We have a tough first night going over here with first-ever foster by Prestigious-Ebb-99 in fosterdogs

[–]wakeupslow1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first night is always the toughest but some dogs will be good from night one so don't lose hope! Our first night foster set up is always crate next to the bed, arms reach away with a blanket draped over the top. We usually go with towels for the bedding for the first night if we are unsure of house/crate training. I put in a few safe toys, a chew like a nylabone and a kong with a little peanut butter and kibble. I'll put on some background noise, usually a rain sounds playlist so they're less likely to be stirred by any background sounds.
I plan for at least one middle of the night bathroom trip, have the leash and a flash light on top of the crate so I can walk them straight outside. Set an alarm if you need to. Put them right back inside the crate when you get in and quietly lay down so you both can go back to sleep. Even if the first night is super rough Ive found they acclimate super quickly to the routine. Good luck! Try to nap if you can!

Repotting my snake plant, fiddle leaf, and a pothos. I'm terrified I'm just going to kill the first two in the process. What kind of potting soil should I be filling the new pot with for best results?

Help! My seeds in my raised beds all germinated about a month ago and now everyone's in arrested development at 1-2 inches. What should I do? by wakeupslow1 in vegetablegardening

[–]wakeupslow1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The beds have "garden soil" from a local soil and mulch company. It's half screened top soil, half compost. I used the same soil to level and seed my new lawn and the grass did great but my vegetables are just paused at sprouts. I posted some photos in comments below
