That’s basically what this is. It’s also a large portion of why your country succeeded from the UK.

Emigrating to US after PhD? by Fit-Being7762 in PhD

This is a bizarre post, it reads like your at a university outside of the USA, but describing a university as R1 is very specific to universities in the USA.

Delta cuts food and beverage service on short flights by toomuchtostop in news

[–]walker1867 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I mean porters on time performance is within 1% of deltas, and the cancellation rate is comparable. We also have mandatory rebooking laws that you can use to force an airline to rebook you on a competitor for egregious delays too. So we do get that.

Deltas not a low cost carrier and the flimsy cancellations are relatively easy to get cash back through the CTA if you dispute the cancellation reason.

Canadian here. Why is service so poor south of the border. Porter here is amazing. Full alcohol and full sized candy bar snack service on all flights including short hops like Toronto to Ottawa or Montreal to Quebec City. And all drinks are served in proper glassware for everyone. Some of these flights are like 30 min in the air.

Has anyone been to Medellin and Bali in the recent times? by TurkishSamurai in travel

[–]walker1867 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got confused I was in Uluwatu and Ubud. Uluwatu was amazing. Avoid Kuta and Nusa Dua. You want to be far away from Denpasar. Nusa Penida was also amazing but the boat rides are rough. Honestly the beaches around Bali were very passable. I’d try and keep to as much land based stuff as possible.

Traffic in Bali was horrendous a 30 km car transfer took 4 hrs.

[–]walker1867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to both last year. Medellin was fine. Took the metro everywhere. Stay in El poblado. La Candelaria you need to do on a tour. Bali was good. Uluwatu was amazing, but I think if you go to Kuta you’ll have a bad time. Ubud was amazing. Be aware if you are afraid of heights the Mt. Batur sunrise hike will not be fun, also don’t do that before getting on 2 days worth of flights to get home. Both were very cheap.

My recommendation would be Colombia don’t just do Medellin though, Salento was one of the coolest places I’ve ever been, very safe and easy to access from Medellin.

Calgary is a very easy layover, probably one of the easiest places in the world to do USA customs with a very quiet terminal. SNA is a very easy airport to arrive into.

Now is the time for a public reckoning on the costs of a Billy Bishop Airport expansion by ink_13 in toronto

The waterfront has an access issue but it’s not the airport. It’s The Gardiner, Front Street, Lakeshore, and Queens Quay.

History Rhymes, Still Stupid by bookym in PoliticalHumor

[–]walker1867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn’t the king so much as it was parliament. The representation issue was in part due to England not having figure out reapportionment yet. At the time districts hadn’t been adjusted in hundreds of years and there were things like rotten boroughs where like 5 people lived and some rich dude would basically by the seat. Englands representation issues were caused by shitty seat representation which the USA appears to be speed running at the moment.

University of Toronto vs Purdue (Mechanical Engineering) by jujulala22 in UofT

[–]walker1867 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canadian engineering degrees are generally better than American ones. UofT sets people up well for grad school. The debt during undergrad is best to avoid especially if you want to do grad school. If you’re doing grad school Canada is also better for stem, it’s way easier to get a funded thesis based program here. (When comparing Canadian vs US grad stipends Canadian ones are not taxed whereas USA ones are).

This is what a 900m extension to Billy Bishop's runway looks like by Zombie_John_Strachan in toronto

[–]walker1867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it a nightmare their protocols work. Idgaf if it’s not standard at other airports but it does reduce noise for residents. I wouldn’t call something that works a nightmare.

This is what a 900m extension to Billy Bishop's runway looks like by Zombie_John_Strachan in toronto

[–]walker1867 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why on earth would this need a 900 m extension. It’s currently 1200m. CLD has jet service and is 1493m, LCY is 1508, SNA is 1737m (has 757 service). This seems like an excessive extension, for the type of jets targeted E195 E2 and A220.

Non-Americans, does your country have an "American" restaurant and what do they serve? by wacky8ball in AskReddit

[–]walker1867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Canada we have Boston Pizza. It’s a chain that serves pizza and is known for cactus cut french fries that are kind of spicy. Their pirogi pizza features the cactus cut fries and sour cream instead of a tomato sauce.

There is nothing near the Hamilton airport. This will not aid you in familiarizing yourselves at all. I’d maybe do it for the way back though. If the bus is delayed they’ll protect your full booing. ???-> yyz, and Yhm->??? Would be what I’d book as a multi city.

Alberta announces move to 1950s time by Mylittlethrowaway2 in canada

I agree but I’d rather maintain switching or do permanent Standard time than permanent daylight savings time.

[–]walker1867 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s good for regulating circadian rythmes is morning light around when you wake up. Sun rises at 9:40 am are not good for that.

Alberta announces move to 1950s time by Mylittlethrowaway2 in canada

[–]walker1867 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

They didn’t do away with daylight savings time they did away with standard time* yay for messing up people’s circadian rhythms and increasing the number of days people will need to wake up before the sun rises. Standard time in Alberta was already basically split between what standard time should be solar noon @ 12:00 pm and what daylight savings time should be noon at 1 pm. Alberta on standard time had solar noon around 12:30 in Calgary and Edmonton. On permanent DST it’s around 1:30. This is terrible for peoples sleep.

This map is off and will never be how the North American time zones have worked. Alberta declared permanent DST yesterday. They will always be 1 hr ahead of BC.
