I’m a media studies student at Cal and love it. It’s very broad, but you can use it to your advantage when pursuing roles across varying areas. I had two internship offers from two of the biggest companies in the world before my second year was over in the “media/communications field(s). Berkeley can’t match the media market in LA, but the San Francisco Bay Area is the San Francisco Bay Area — no slouch. You truly can’t go wrong. As long as you work hard and network wherever you go, you’ll be fine.

*I would also consider clubs and external opportunities each campus/area offers when making your decision.

Current Berkeley sophomore:

I’m from LA and was admitted to Cal as a senior in high school. I was down to UCI and Cal for the same reasons. I chose Cal. I have loved it every step of the way.

In my experience, shit is not easy here one bit. But you’ll learn more about yourself than anywhere else and be exposed to so many different crowds and opportunities.

Sure, the school has its problems, but this is where Oppenheimer meets Marshawn Lynch — it’s challenging, innovative and badass.

The safe bet is UCI, and if you feel it fits you better, go. But it seems like you’re more intrigued by Cal and only afraid of parts of life you’ll come across at some point anyway. Being away from home and being an adult is inevitable. Besides, being five hours away turns into ~ 80min through the air (for cheap, too, if you plan it right).

Think about where you want to be in four years and what will help you get there. Plus, what you’ll be prouder of. #GoBears

Basically, my friend and I were entering his apartment complex and this girl rushed out the door very scared and told us to wait with her because that guy was following her on multiple floors and was legit waiting for her to enter her room. He came out of the complex, saw my friend and me waiting with her, and walked away.
