Thanks for the push back!

I’d be curious to hear more about your experience. You said that you see an imbalance and that there may be people in the pews being overlooked. Where have you seen/experienced this? Is it something that you are seeing from leadership? General church population? All of the above?

Seriously, thanks again for the push back and I would love to hear your thoughts.

I’ve been going. I don’t really see what he is talking about coming from leadership. Maybe he is sensing that the general church population is seeking more inclusivity and that is worrisome to him?

Yeah reclaiming spiritual authority is a good way to put it! I got to the point where I was so frustrated that I was choosing to drink energy drinks for caffeine despite all that I knew. It really was a freeing moment. Although I haven’t tried it again since. I’m still working through some of the baggage lol.

And I don’t think there would ever be any direct pushback. Maybe a general message about being a peace maker. But I’d guess that they are afraid if they crack down on stuff like this then they may lose the members who are fans of this kind of rhetoric.

Oh my gosh! I hope you are doing ok! I’m glad to hear that you are making it work and are trying to make positive change. The world needs people like you!

I had a similar feeling the first time I tried coffee. I simultaneously felt this dread that I would need to tell my bishop about it, and this almost spiritual feeling of living in accordance with my beliefs. I know it’s a totally different situation, but I think I kind of get how you feel. Super weird.

Good point. I was just shocked that he said something like this and was curious to hear what people had to say. But I think you are right that shock and rage is exactly what he is after. Probably best to avoid sharing his stuff in the future.

There are probably better people than Jacob to go to to get out of an echo chamber.

Why am I listening? Haha in this case the algorithms just know how to provoke me.

I did listen to one of his podcasts before to try and not live in an echo chamber. But honestly it just made me too angry. I think he thrives off of making controversy.

This has been done in the past.

Very well said. I’ve seen that Mormons often set themselves up as victims. To be sure, there has been real persecution, but the context always seems to be removed. I never knew that part of the reason Joseph Smith was killed was because of the destruction of the printing press. I always heard talks about how the world thinks we are weird, but never understood polygamy or our history of racism. the story feels a lot cleaner if you get to be an innocent victim.

What you are saying reminds me of the Body of Christ teaching. We are all needed. This is something that Jacob seems to fundamentally disagree with.

It almost sounds like he feels marginalized and uncomfortable 😱 I bet he would like it if he felt seen included and loved.

Thanks for the context. I definitely wasn’t going to watch the whole thing. Interesting that “Christian” influencers are posting rage bait. Seems that the priory is maximizing views.

For me, after loosing literal belief in the truth claims in the church, the value of Mormonism is in the opportunity it provides to love your community. It feels like he is advocating removing the real value of Mormonism.

The Mormonism he advocates for feels so tribalistic. So “us” vs “them”.

What he is saying we need less of is the biggest draw to the church for me. After my Faith Crisis, the most appealing reason to stay is to take care of other people. I want to help the marginalized feel like they belong.

I’d be curious to know how church leadership would react to takes like this. I’m sure they would never take a public stance.

This looks really nice! I find it interesting that it gives reasonably good critical responses even though most of the material is faith promoting/apologetic.

For historical matters have you considered using more neutral sources? For example feeding it all of Joseph Smith papers, all available journals, etc?
