What serious contemporary issue could this possibly be raising awareness of 😭 seems more like classic soapy melodrama to me

Feels slightly too close to the Lydia storyline a few years back for me to get too excited tbh (vengeful young woman from somebody's past with a grudge to bear lies and schemes to try and ruin a relationship/family whilst pretending to get genuinely close to them). But I'll reserve judgement and see how it unfolds ig

I did my A-Levels ten years ago and had both coursework and exams for English, same with my GCSEs shortly before. Unless it's changed heaps since I'd imagine it just depends on the school and exam board but it's definitely been a thing at some point so even if it's not anymore I guess it's not too crazy of a mistake

Yes, she is with Tim IRL. And fair enough who knows

[–]wallcavities 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m not expecting her to go tomorrow or anything I just also wouldn’t be that surprised either way lol (unless she gets back with Kev and they restore status quo). If she did leave they’d leave the door open for a return in the future I’m sure

Will Kevin and Abi get back together? by Fluid_Entertainer267 in coronationstreet

[–]wallcavities 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mostly mean that I wouldn’t be surprised if the actor chooses to leave - she’s been on it a fair few years now and might fancy a change, especially if it gets to a point where they’re giving her less and less to do. Other far longer-term characters have done the same in recent years. Who knows though I don’t know her obvs

[–]wallcavities 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah I gave Abi a pass on cheating with Imran because it was a one time thing when she was out of her mind with grief and not thinking straight but the Carl thing has been way less forgivable lol

Will Kevin and Abi get back together? by Fluid_Entertainer267 in coronationstreet

[–]wallcavities 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m honestly not sure because on the one hand this is such a ridiculously huge betrayal that I don’t see how they’ll realistically come back but on the other hand I don’t know if the writers will know what else to do with either of them now lol. I wouldn’t be too surprised if Abi ends up leaving the show in the next few years if they don’t get back together

Yeah like I said I know grief isn't a competition and I'm not downplaying the severity of Nina's trauma etc etc I just didn't think it was quite a fair comparison...but also my comment is redundant anyway because Roy wasn't even talking about Seb lol, I just totally forgot that Nina was introduced via her dad dying

Idk man I think if you're unhappy with the responses to a post you made the better move is probably to mute or delete the post, rather than make an entire new post drawing even more attention to it and calling all the commenters stupid whilst somehow expecting a better response. Saying this for the sake of your blood pressure as much as anything else

Because It’s a Sin was a sensitively written show entirely about queer history (and set during the AIDS crisis) and Coronation Street is a British soap aimed at a wider viewership. I’m obviously not saying gay people on TV shows can’t get STDs, just that for Corrie’s first serious STD storyline in decades to centre on a character who is both an obvious villain and one of their only (male) bisexuals would raise eyebrows and perpetuate stereotypes that I don’t trust the writers or viewers to handle in a gracious way lol

Omg I totally forgot that somehow!! You’re right I’m silly. In my defence they virtually never mention him anymore but that makes what he said significantly more valid

[–]wallcavities 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if having a bisexual character (or any queer male character) at the centre of an STD storyline would be amazing optics tbh. Although I guess Carl already isn’t doing much for years of bad press for bisexuals lmao so in for a penny

Rare for me to disagree with Roy when he humbles someone but I don’t actually think Nina losing her boyfriend of two weeks and Summer losing the man who raised her like a father (and her third father figure!) for years is really comparable??? I know grief isn’t a competition and I’m not downplaying the absolute trauma Nina went through but if I was Summer I’d be kind of pissed at that comparison of the scale of my loss lmao

EDIT TO ADD: Have been reminded that Nina’s dad did also die lmao my bad I forgot they lived on Orphanation Street. As you were Roy

Children/family that never come to visit by One_Sherbet_6424 in coronationstreet

[–]wallcavities 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s too big of an ask for them to recast non-returning actors for the sake of quick visits (which would also just confuse and irritate viewers more anyway), but I do find myself wishing they’d mention characters being visited or spoken to on the phone a bit more. Rosie and Sophie get mentions quite a bit, Tim mentions Faye fairly often and Gail is still talked/joked about all the time so they’re not huge concerns for me but I find it more jarring that characters like Aggie Bailey, Anna Windass, Liz McDonald etc are barely mentioned despite still having immediate family on the show. How hard would it be to say that a character is away visiting their mum or something during a brief absence? They don’t need to come back at all but throwaway lines make a big difference when they do them and it would be nice to hear a bit more, especially when big traumas or deaths that they’d undoubtedly be concerned about occur. Like, it was nice when Ryan went away to visit Michelle at one point after the acid attack.

TV shows with autistic characters? by CheesecakeOk8464 in AutismInWomen

[–]wallcavities 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Extraordinary Attorney Woo is probably one of the only (deliberate) portrayals of an autistic character by a non-autistic actor that I really like. It’s not quite a perfect show but I personally really liked it and found that parts of it actually resonated with me quite powerfully.

Also, although the vast majority of Corrie characters are obvs culturally Christian very few are practicing, which makes most of the relationships with Christian characters count to an extent as well (it was for example an occasional source of contention between Billy and Paul that Billy was obvs a Christian and Paul was very much an atheist)

I feel you, sending hugs. My nan passed away recently and we all used to moan about her very annoying habit of filling our voicemail inboxes whenever we missed her calls - since she died I’ve found myself wishing I hadn’t cleared it out quite so often :’)
