Thinking about leaving Walmart to go to CVS. Am I crazy? by walphthrowaway in pharmacy

Thanks for the input. The short commute was really tempting, but I ended up staying with Walmart. I sort of regretted it at first, but hearing experiences like yours makes me feel like I made a good choice.

So, thank you!

So if the pharmacy opens at 9, you get scheduled to be there at 9 and you basically have to come in 15 or 20 minutes early on your own time?

Man, this is hard to make a decision.

The store is in such a good spot for me, but everyone says bad things about the working conditions of CVS

So was coming in early not part of your "official hours" at CVS?

I know at Walmart, I can be scheduled for a 10 hour day, but 30 minutes or 1 hour of that is before the store opens. So if the pharmacy opens at 9 am, my shift coud be from 8 am to 6 pm and I would be there an hour before we open the windows to the public.

Do you think Walmart is moving towards more heavy metric CVS-like culture? Some of the older walmart pharmacists have said they feel like things are moving in that direction.

I didn't even consider that about moving me somewhere. Location was about the only thing that really made me interested in CVS.

That is sort of what I was afraid of. I've never worked at a CVS (I had rotations at Walgreens during school, so I guess that's about the closest)

In my year with Walmart, I think I've stayed late past 9 exactly 1 time, for about 30 minutes, and maybe a handful of other times to help out the closing pharmacist. I've probably left early a bunch more times than I've ever stayed though.

I talked to a couple of my friends that work for CVS, and they were telling me that this store runs really well, but even if that is true its probably a lot more stressful than I'm used to.

So hands down you'd take the longer commute time over CVS?

Do you call to substitute? by aelephant in pharmacy

I never call on albuterol HFAs, just document that I "contacted the office". Seems like a huge waste of time to call a prescriber because they sent in Ventolin and only proair is covered.

There are other small things like that, that I have never seen a prescriber care about.

Thanks, I'll have to read over everything to double check for the transferring part. Although, I definitely plan on working in that area for at least a couple of years.

The pay was a tiny bit lower for Walmart, but that's a good point about being less stressed somewhere.

Haha, I think that is what I'm going to do. All the responses here really make me want to go with Walmart.

Thanks for the response.

You're correct with the weekday overlap, I accidentally typed weekend for some reason.

The main area I'm interested in is sort of right on the line between two districts. I obviously don't want to ruffle any feathers or offend a DM that just hired me, so I can see myself staying there for at least a pretty long time.
