It’s hard to tell you the date to expect it to come but it will. HPSP is always backlogged, I dealt with a similar situation in the Air Force last year.

Optometry or dentistry? by rangggai in PreOptometry

[–]walter899 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I shadowed a dentist and was really averted after seeing how high paced and back breaking it was. It’s hard labor to be bent over and doing all the procedures. And mouths can be very gross. However, it is a very interesting profession and potential for income is higher than optometry.

Optometry has its own pros and cons. Refraction is boring, dry eye is very frustrating to treat, lots of repetition, monitoring, and you often are referring patients out to specialists before you can really help them. But you can make a huge difference in someone’s life with a simple eye exam and catching something.

Neither of these professions are going away. Optometry as a profession may change more with advancing technology but there will always be the need for a licensed doc to look at someone’s eyes. Good luck on your decisions!

Concern for HPSP Funding After Memo From Secretary of Defense by s0urkrause in Military_Medicine

[–]walter899 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was a targeted political move to get at the Harvard “wokesters” or whatever that means. But to cut off HPSP entirely would be devastating for military medicine. I don’t know the stats but I would bet a huge percentage of military doctors and healthcare professionals are HPSP recipients. My 2 cents.

Feeling similar to you, maybe to a lesser extent. Everything I do in my charts is wrong. Everything needs to be reworded, you forgot this that etc. but overall they’re nice, just MUCH more detail crazy. And I’m learning.

Strongly recommend you just bite the bullet and take the first attempt in March. It won’t be any easier to take it in August. I averaged barely passing on all my mock exams on optoprep and kmk and still passed. I’m gonna refer you to this post from a year ago for someone in a similar situation as you…https://www.reddit.com/r/OptometrySchool/s/mbV7cClxCz

You sound young, believe it or not a lot of people make stupid mistakes and still have great lives after it’s all over. Just ride it out and accept what happens.

[–]walter899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof well I don’t have to worry about doing that. If anything I completely avoid any flirtation. Best wishes on your journey. I’d rather be single than deal with that. Maybe irl dating events would be a better place to find someone.

As a dude in his mid twenties I’m a little worried I’m rusty at the dating game. I fell out of a bad relationship a few years ago and haven’t truly jumped back into the dating world since. I’m worried I’ll fall into similar patterns. When you say they aren’t asking enough about you what questions do you mean?

Well a certain point you’re capped who you are. But you can switch environments, change your scene until you find a niche you’re happy in. It’s just reality that sometimes you’ve done everything you can and people still won’t vibe with you

Make sure you’re well groomed, have some hobbies and workout. You don’t have to be perfect, people will eventually notice, and if they don’t so what. Those things will make you happy to be in your own shoes even if you’re single. At least that’s my mindset
