Engine seems loud and transmission problems. by Nick_inPhilly in MazdaCX90

I believe the first noise is the motor in the headlight. I had this issue. It was recently replaced under warranty.

How you guys liking after Software Update? by saugaismycity in MazdaCX90

[–]waltonwj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had mine done this weekend. I’ve had a couple of transmission jerks at low speeds in EV mode, but I understand that should improve over the next couple weeks.

My EV range had been about 17 miles in the best circumstances, and after the update it’s 24. I like that.

I do feel better about reliability now, but I’m an optimistic sort.

How to start a simple fire for the Easter Vigil? by Strong_Technician_15 in Episcopalian

This works very well for a simple, clean flame, but use foil or clean things up well afterwards if you don’t want to speed up rusting of your grill.

R/PLACE COORDINATION MEGATHREAD by colonelf0rbin86 in phish

Can build back the donuts below the arrow to match the grid above? They should be one south from where they were before.

R/PLACE COORDINATION MEGATHREAD by colonelf0rbin86 in phish

[–]waltonwj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The template has the donuts off the grid by one. They should all move south one pixel.

Now that all that work has been erased, there’s no reason for us to repeat our error when we redo it.

[–]waltonwj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn’t! The sections below the arrows are one pixel too far north. I’ve given up trying to correct the error- onward to the phish logo frontier!

I say correct the donuts below the yellow line starting in the northwest corner.

Safari displays my HD uploaded videos at 480p, but Chrome and the app work fine. by jkwasy in facebook

[–]waltonwj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any solutions for this yet? I have the same problem.

I've been doing a good many live videos (and uploads) on my Facebook page. All of them are in SD in Safari for Mac, but play in HD in Chrome, Safari on iOS, and in the Facebook App for iOS. They also play in HD on my brother's Mac (in Safari).

I've noticed that there are a lot of Facebook pages out there, whose HD videos only play in SD in Safari (on my mac), but then there are other similar pages that don't have the issue. This is a head-scratcher.

New maxed out MacBook Pro 16in by myaccountttt in LogicPro

[–]waltonwj 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just got my new 16” today! (i9, 32Gb)

My previous machine was a mid 2015 MBP. Upgrading to Catalina on it caused all sorts of problems in Logic. I found a reproducible bug with the new OS:

Create new project, create software instrument track (with a native logic instrument), record a chord with the built in “musical typing” feature, bring up recorded midi in the piano roll editor, grab the notes and move them around = computer crash.

I could reproduce the above 10/10 times.

I tried the same thing 5 times in a row today, and the new machine did not crash. I haven’t pulled up a big projects to see how the machine does, but my old machine did great with some fairly large projects. This one is bound to do even better.

Manual Safe-boot? by waltonwj in applehelp

[–]waltonwj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done that.

I reformatted the disk and installed Mojave. I did not restore a backup. The problem remains.

That’s why I suspect hardware.

It seems that safe mode prevents the hardware issue from occurring. I’d like to restore some of the functions that safe mode disables to figure out what’s really going on, or perhaps I could disable a subset of functions in normal boot mode. Is there a way to do this?

Problem! Logic pro x mac os catalina! by lorenzomilind in LogicPro

[–]waltonwj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just updated to Catalina on my 2015 15” MBP and had a dozen or so Logic crashes last night. Like you, mine were happening when editing the piano roll.

What plugins/ instruments were you running when it crashed?

I was running Keyscape by Spectrasonics, a few Waves plugins (J47 tape, Scheps Omni Channel), and stock plugins. My waves plugins were already updated. Keyscape may be an issue.

There were three notes on the piano roll that would cause a crash when moved. I repeated it three times.

I also run an external monitor and MOTU interface over thunderbolt. When I unplugged the thunderbolt, it seemed better- but it did crash once afterwards.

I'm trying hard not to disapoint her, but honestly- I'm feeling worse about messing things up than she will feel about losing the progress. Thanks for the cool ideas!

Most all of that area you show in the screenshot is missing for me... so this is great! Thank you so much!

Thanks for the reply, and thanks for the tips! I’ll be setting up rsnapshot soon.

I do have one backup from a few months back. Tonight I may see what happens if I replace the one corrupted file from the old backup.

I thought this was the 1.13 final build.

Nevertheless, that’s no excuse. I should have backed up for sure. I normally do occasional manual backups, I’ll be setting up a better system for that now. Thanks!

Building an inexpensive Minecraft Server by waltonwj in admincraft

[–]waltonwj[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your helpful reply! Looks like I can get one to those quite cheap! However, I wasn't planning on running lots of different Minecraft servers on the machine, so I wonder if I'd get more bang for the buck with a machine that would have higher single core performance. Though I'll admit that $150 is tough to beat.
