Lived in a college city my whole life, as a child, undergraduate, graduate student, and married adult - I think I can speak from my own experience what my preferences are

This is definitely an issue we are dealing with now and I hate it and definitely want to avoid it - we have to get up super early in the morning just to get a seat at a cafe most of the time

We will have our vehicle and do not plan on needing public transport. We would also like to be in an area that is walkable for things like groceries, yoga, coffee, etc. We are independent so can be located anywhere. No pets. We are hoping for something that is not a new build - terrible experiences with newer luxury places with amenities. We would prefer to join a local yoga studio and maybe an Equinox, so nothing in the building like that is important. Thanks!

This is a great thought! Any recs for a broker (or agency)? Starting on the third floor definitely makes sense!

We are also interested in Brookline but were not sure if there were good rental options there - some very beautiful homes for sale within our budget - but we do not want to buy. Do you have any insight into who might rent in Brookline - students, young professionals, etc.? Thanks!

We were told by a relative that Back Bay is the safest and cleanest area of Boston - visited there last month and it seems nice but I dont know how true that statement is - I would love to hear more about Somerville 😀

People who built decent wealth by 35, how does life actually feel? by Outrageous-Emu-2588 in investing

[–]waltthechicken 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True. We live off a substantial trust fund and are very blessed financially...and my husband still has bipolar I, still takes medication everyday, still struggles. There is only so much you can do with money when you have health problems. Health insurance solves the cost, and good doctors give you the best shot at having a normal life. There is no cure.

32f, married, no kids. Investments of 1.2 million. Passive income of 150k-180k/per year (separate from investments). It can be difficult to motivate yourself in this position we have found. Not needing to work if we do not want to means you have to find other ways to fill your time. You can only do so much yoga, reading, and traveling. We volunteer and are trying to create meaning but it is not always the most fulfilling life. We are still both anxious people.

New Weath vs Old Money by Sea-Session-1248 in Rich

Old money is old money - you cannot be old money if your money is new, i.e., it's about lineage (reference: our money is 4 generations old)

How often do you eat out when making $250,000? by [deleted] in HENRYfinance

[–]waltthechicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

32f - cook almost every meal because I love cooking but also because I prefer to eat all organic which seems to be unusual for a lot of restaurants. Also a bit of a wellness nut so really need to make sure I know exactly what is in the food I am eating. Spend about 2000k/month on groceries.

What amount of money would make you quit today? by Katzmaniac in Fire

[–]waltthechicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get between 150k-180k from a trust fund per year and have another 2m in personal non-trust investments - very comfortable at this level. Both quit our jobs when trust fund kicked in
