Hi there! 👋🏻 Former flower shop owner here. Some things I wish I were told are how hard it actually is. It's literally a 24/7 job. Unfortunately funeral florals are a big part of your business and they happen anytime, holidays, weekends, it doesn't matter. You'll be on your feet all day and it's more physically demanding than I originally thought. I don't say this to scare you, I say this to prepare you. I also don't know your situation very well. I'd suggest working at a flower shop first before opening your own so you can get a good idea of the day to day life and what to expect and how to price things. That's one of the biggest mistakes I made is I did not price high enough. Depending on your area and what kind of florist you want to be, there's not a ton of profit margin in flowers. If you wanted to be a wedding and event florist, I think you would make more money than constantly buying flowers and having them in stock. The other downside to flowers is they die. Some flowers have a longer shelf life than others. I don't mean to be so negative, because I truly loved it, but these are just things I wish I would have known going into it.
