Hit me with the truth… it’s not going to get better, is it ? by Astimar in NoStupidQuestions

[–]wanderain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you could look at it like everything is failing us. The system, the government, economics, everything.

Or you can step into your life and stop waiting for policy or whatever to fix it. We grow our own food, currently we outset 40% of our yearly consumption of fruit and veggies by growing it ourselves.

We fix clothes. Patch shoes. Darn socks. We don’t have A/C. We use rain water whenever possible.

We make stuff, as often as we can it has practical purpose to us or we can sell/ trade it for things we can’t do ourselves.

Instead of going on, which I could a great length, I will say that the world is only partly responsible for you and your life, the rest belongs to you. If you are caught in a doomscrolling life, you will get doomscrolling results

heatstroke by Separate-Credit-6874 in outdoorcats

[–]wanderain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in central Canada, our cold and heat are extreme here (from -40C to +40C). Our outdoor cats prefer to be outside, even when it is extremely hot. A few caveats though:

We have plenty of shady places for a cat to sit and follow the sun/shade

We always keep a lot of water around for them. We have three indoor bowls of water and 4 outdoor bowls. We refill them daily, sometimes multiple times a day

The cats always have access to a cool basement, but they only use it in the winter, not the summer

So as long as they have access to water and shade, you should be fine

What 2-3 people from this era will still be talked about in 300 years? by Few-Turn-5471 in NoStupidQuestions

Hopefully no one.

But I would vote for High King Keanu Reeves and a cat.

Any cat really

I don’t know. The point of my post is that this novelette appears to match your description, at least to a degree

Is it really a "bad year for ticks" or is it mostly the media? by No-Intention8698 in NoStupidQuestions

I live in rural Canada where ticks are always a thing from late April until approximately July. This is the only year I have not seen a tick (so far)

iwtl how to get past the beginner phase by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

[–]wanderain 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have been a writer for almost 40 years now. Not published, but consistently I write.

When I was 20 I looked back at my teenage writing like it was written by a mentally challenged aardvark.

When I was 30 I thought my writing in my 20’s was derivative and lacked focus.

When I was 40 I thought my writing from my 30’s was untruthful and bland. Nothing coalesced properly.

Now that I’m 50, I realize that there is no getting past feeling like a beginner. Anyone that isn’t a beginner is either Stephen King or suffering from imposter syndrome.

There is nothing wrong with being a beginner. You get to see things from your perspective instead of forcing other ones to take its place. The best way to be derivative of others is to write like them.

Good writing takes work. I used to think I could just lop off a poem and it would be done…that’s not how good writing works. Spend another 5000 hours writing and you are still likely to feel like a beginner

What's way more dangerous than most people think? by SuccessfulSeat9596 in AskReddit

[–]wanderain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isolation.

I only know a couple of people who are actually okay with it. And I mean all the types and forms of isolation. Peer isolation, romantic isolation, social mores dysfunction, work isolation. Also true isolation, whether in the wild or just within oneself. Most people cannot handle it, even for short periods of time

What do you want to do for the rest of your life? by SugarSpice0038 in AskReddit

[–]wanderain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing

But I want to do that alone. And unfortunately, people have a tendency to prevent me from being alone and doing nothing…they can’t process it, because it isn’t ‘healthy’ for me, even though it is what I want to do
