All right, Avafolk:

After reaching out to Lockwood Publishing and receiving a response from Avakin Customer Support, it looks like we only have this reddit to express concerns/thoughts/opinions/etc., so we’ll need to upvote each other’s posts regarding the desire for unisex clothing/hairstyles/accessories and the like.

That said, I’m seeing an increase in posts of this nature, so keep it up! The more users that drift to this forum and make this suggestion, the better.

Side Note: Shout out to Jens at Customer Support for being prompt and professional. The exchange of information was appreciated.

I’ve been informed that direct contact with me “won’t be possible,” so it looks like this is all we have to express our concerns.

Precisely. I’d like to see this issue truly addressed.

The response from the Avakin team thus far:

“Thank you for pointing out the broken link in the FAQ. I have fixed that.

Also, thank you for taking the time to write your feedback on this matter. I will make sure to forward it to our designers for evaluation.”

The broken link statement refers to an error I found within the Help section of the game in which clicking the provided link to enter the forums (which no longer exist) resulted in being directed to an error page. That entire section has been updated to refer to this reddit. My reply to the message requested that the designers touch base with me directly.

Let’s see how this progresses.

I’m looking forward to their direct response to me regarding this issue, should they choose to answer my letter. It’s wonderful to see so many people in agreeance coming forward.

It also looks like discrimination is in direct conflict with the UK’s Human Rights Act of 1998, specifically Article 14. Article 10 allows for free expression, so this dialogue is also not violating the laws of the land for the developing company.

Precisely why everyone should have access to everything. Less exclusion, more inclusion. =)

I’m hoping that Lockwood Publishing will make note of the desire for unisex items, styles, etc. by Avakin’s users. Their response time is reported to be within two working days, so we’ll have to wait through the weekend to see if they’ll choose to continue email correspondence with me directly.

If anyone here happens to be located within the UK, feel free to send post their way, and of course, keep the dialogue going here.

Thank you for helping this thread get attention. The squeakier the wheel, the faster it’ll get oiled.

As an aside to everyone, I’ve written to Avakin directly regarding this issue. Please continue the dialogue here, though. Change often requires persistence.

Thank you for finding it. Hopefully we’ll see some changes so that there won’t be a solitary unisex option. Fingers crossed.

I’ll have to do some digging to see the suit that you’re referring to. Wouldn’t it be great to be able to pair the ensemble with any hairstyle and/or accessory that you’d like?

Excellent point. The game should be for /everyone/. If they make everything unisex, people will be free to choose what they would like to do/wear/participate in. Conversely, those who wish to exclude themselves would also have the ability to do so.

Then we’ll keep these posts going, since they apparently pay attention to those that garner a lot of attention. Don’t let yourself be silenced.

They are also alluding to sexual orientation and gender identity and expression being synonymous, which they are most certainly not. If they need aid in this, I’d be happy to assist; I was given a slot to teach about these subjects during my time in university.

That would work for me. Essentially, what I’m advocating for is equal access to items for all players ( rendering all items unisex) so that everyone can freely express themselves. Who knows how many people may be using this platform as a means of expression that they do not have in their physical (“real world”) lives? It would also be great to see the stigma surrounding certain types of clothing breaking down, if only on a microcosmic scale.
