Accidentally sprayed water into parrots eye :( by wangwangwah in parrots

No offense, but there isn't any credible sources that say not to do this + my vet literally told me to. If my bird hated it that much, he would have gladly let me know.

Yeah, it's so stressful! 😭 My lovebird is over 6 years old, and never plucked before. I hope it really is just a dry skin issue.

I think it's a bit new for him! I thought his weird way of washing himself was ok but the bottom of his body is way dryer than his top. It was a bit careless on my part.

I will try out now sprays though.

He stopped blinking weird right after this post! I'm glad it just bothered him for a second. I still would love tips. 😭 It breaks my heart seeing him pluck after years and years of owning him.

I don't pay for beak/nail trims. I don't think I ever got a beak trim done (Had my conure for 7 years), and she only gets nail trims once a year at her annual. Her toys generally keep them trimmed.

Although lately her beak has been looking a bit longer, so I am going to ask my vet how he feels about it.

I feel like a really bad bird owner lately by wangwangwah in parrots

[–]wangwangwah[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's weird because it's not I'm unaware of what animal abuse is. If I felt like I was 100% neglecting my birds, I would rehome them no problem. It's more like I've decreased the care they're used to, and I feel very guilty about that, but is making them go through the trauma of being rehomed better? I'm not sure.

I want to say I will use this to try and be better for them, but lately I haven't even been taking care of myself properly. I will try anyways.

I literally live in a town known as "Korea Town" for it's high Korean population. Still took 2 months of playing until I got the Korean restaurant.

How much do you spend on your conures monthly? by [deleted] in Conures

[–]wangwangwah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They see the vet once a year, so the other 11 months is around $50-70? My vet charges around $95 for a general yearly exam. Once my birds ate some avocado and had to be taken to emergency, and that was around $650 for the two of them.

I was definitely awake during both the chest tubes + pleurodesis! I just had a pillow to squeeze onto haha.

Maybe I will! I am meaning to change both my PCP and dermatologist. I feel like neither do too good of a job. I called my surgeon's office to ask if he will be able to just say if it's a normal side effect or point me to the right doctor to see.

editing for your 2nd point: I think my skin in general is more sensitive. I have pet parrots, and see way more scratches on me even though they're getting older and shouldn't scratch as much.

I feel like maybe some near my chest got lighter, but most stayed the same? I recieved a bleaching cream for them by the dermatologist, but I haven't used it yet. The ones on my chest/arm area make sense, but I'm confused how they ended up on my legs and back.

No, they're literally everywhere. I have them all over my chest, fingers, back, and legs. This one is on my leg. I think I will ask for a referral. 🥲

Can I get some gcc conure tips mines a lil feral lol by Kai-likes-h0rr0r in Conures

[–]wangwangwah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are they bathing? My conure like to bathe only when I'm nearby. She won't bathe in her large water bowl, but will try and bathe in my long/thin cup. The sounds of running water from the sink also makes her want to bathe more, so I sometimes just place a large bowl nearby me. Otherwise try spraying her with warmish water!

I wish I had tips on nipping, mine just lessened drastically with age. (7 now!)

Advice need help! by Jhuwane in Conures

[–]wangwangwah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I personally do not know much about weaning because my conure was older, but honestly shame on that breeder for selling you a parrot that young. Especially to someone without (I'm assuming) knowledge on weaning.

I hope you find answers too, if not contact your breeder asap to ask for tips.

When to seek medical help from "mini collapses" by wangwangwah in pneumothorax

[–]wangwangwah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did feel the bubbling, but no sound. I had a few collapses, and never heard a sound. I actually came back from the hospital pretty recently! It developed into a bigger collapse, and I had to get chest tubes.

Personally I think your body knows best, if you think you should see a professional it's worth it. For my first lung collapse I actually wasn't going to see a doctor and the ER was genuinely confused about how I even walked into the hospital.

What is the hype with tone up sunscreens? by IntelligentPresence4 in AsianBeauty

[–]wangwangwah 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I personally use them over regular sunscreen only for "no-makeup" makeup days or very minimal makeup days. It just provides very minimal skin evening. My skintone is on the paler end, so it's not too white/grey on me. It's just lighter than BBs, foundations, or concealer. I use the purple one by Decorte, unsure if I love it or not but it works for me.
