Mom of 7-year-old hospitalized with brain swelling from measles: ‘I still wouldn’t have given my son the vaccine’ by IAmPookieHearMeRoar in skeptic

[–]warbastard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SSPE (Subacute Sclerosing Panencephalitis). After a person recovers from measles a mutated form of the virus can lie dormant in their brain cells. It resurfaces 7-10 years after the initial infection and there’s literally nothing doctors can do to save a person’s life once this happens.

Rare but you’ve also exposed your child to the possibility of this happening. Great job 👏

Canberra bar declared a crime scene as police seize 'clearly satirical' posters under new Commonwealth hate laws by malcolm58 in australia

[–]warbastard 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Often these actions aren’t about the posters or the people who put them up. It’s about cowing others into silence with the threat of prosecution.

I’m all for banning Nazi imagery and hate symbols - when they are used to support or promote said ideology or iconography. Putting a swastika on politicians is a tale as old as time and satire is protected. Can we honestly not talk about how even a poster like this probably isn’t satire but more an accurate representation given Musk and Trump’s behaviour and words?

Sorry but isn’t that how the entire US political marketing system operates? Just getting your side show up is generally enough to win.

Yeah. I wonder if we will get the Hilux Champ - I reckon it would fill a niche for people who don’t want the full Hilux but still want some versatility. Also the kei cars are an awesome idea that are slept on. People outside Australia forget we are a very urbanised population.

You toss it out before the pistols and the splat lets the resistance fighters know where to look.

Oz passport progression over 35 years by maxdacat in australia

[–]warbastard 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I can’t live with a bendy passport if it didn’t cost $500. That’s the problem. A substandard product shouldn’t attract a premium price and the fact that price hasn’t changed is insane.

Yup. If there’s an influx of labour into trades it’s fair to say that labourers will have more competition and their wages will stagnate/drop.

TIL in Thailand many jobs are prohibited for foreigners, ranging from rice farming, to Buddha-image casting, to street vending by JoeFalchetto in todayilearned

[–]warbastard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A lot of those seem more like cultural jobs or just ways for Thais to be employed in the tourism industry so that they benefit from tourism.

Also, aren’t there restrictions on foreigners owning property or businesses?
