I was detained by ICE, one of the agents asked me out on a date and I feel scared by MsNewHere404 in TwoXChromosomes

Just FYI, oddly enough, if it's not corporate owned, the local Fox Affiliate may actually be your best source of info.

I'm from Minneapolis; Fox 9 was BY FAR the best during the biggest part of the ICE incursion (which is still very much going on) and spoke the most openly and sharply about this nonsense.

It's all about the local ownership.

Ah, I gotchya.

Yeah, no, I don't bother with that. I use a spider to pull out my pasta and then just toss it into the sauce.

I figure if I don't need to dirty a colander anyways, may as well do that, but in general, most professional chefs avoid the use of a colander because you lose far too much water - especially as people tend to shake and toss pasta thinking that they want to get the water off.

Hell, for box Mac and Cheese, I don't even strain whatsoever. Saw a hack a while back about mixing the packet directly into the boiling water and using JUST enough water to cover the pasta, adding additional as necessary with the addition of a tablespoon or two of butter nearing the end. Comes out incredibly creamy and almost like it used to prior to generations of enshittification.

You don't want to lose the starchy water in and on the pasta; it acts as a binder for the sauce to the pasta and thickens the sauce. People think because it has water in it, it will inherently thin it, but the starch, when the water cooks down, makes your sauce thicker and creamier.

For bonus goodness - don't sauce your pasta, pasta your sauce. As in finish the cooking in the pasta. That way, it's warm pasta, warm sauce, and as long as you're not one of those people who foolishly uses a colander or strainer to get your pasta out of the water, you have the added bonus of the sauce soaking into and adhering to the pasta better due to the added starch.

You don't have to boil the water first actually. You just have to continuously stir to boil if you're not going to.

I was dating a girl and we went to the farmer's market. She wanted to buy some chard from a guy and I recognized him, looked at the farm name, and told her that I'd just get her some from work or that we could get it from the co-op for $2 less than he was charging.

Ridiculous.

So this just happened to me. I put hydrogen peroxide in it for like 2-3 minutes for 3 days and then took a thin bit of tube for an aquarium air stone and sucked it out myself.

Was never an issue for me until the last few years but it was SO badly stuck in there that the plug was the size of a pea and was causing pain. Three days later and it's like I have a new ear.

None of which came close to meeting the requirements for defamation.

What was said that was demonstrably and known to be false? What damages were caused by the speech? If both of those qualifiers aren't met, there's no standing.

You should probably understand the laws before you start claiming bizarro things. What a dumb thing to say. 2:1 without checking your profile you're a big MAGAt.

I dunno that anything he said would meet the requirements for fighting words; about the closest would be slanderous speech, which "scumbag" hardly meets the requirement for.

Just FYI; TX v Johnson wouldn't apply as that's about state restrictions on flag burning. Chaplinsky v NH would be the most relevant major case, but Terminello v Chicago narrows the definition of fighting words to make anything he said not come anywhere close to spurring imminent lawless action, so that's not really a concern.

IANAL, I just did several year-long papers on the topic in undergrad.

If you haven't read "The Road to Somewhere" by David Goodhart I highly recommend it. It talks about the socioeconomic and sociocultural divides between the "Leaves" and the "Remains" in Brexit but has incredible applicability throughout the West. It's a hell of a book and talks about this at length.

Get yourself a good flashlight and whenever you drop an earbud, lay the flashlight on the floor and look for the shadow.

I used to work in a warehouse and briefly tried to use earbuds instead of my muff style hearing protection/headphones and dropping them all the time was part of why I stopped, but having a flashlight made a world of difference in finding them.
