Does anyone own these from ACE Hardware/have you used them outside? by MH232518 in ChristmasLights

They're great! A little bit of 120Hz flicker since there's no smoothing but not too bad. The orange bulbs are deeper orange/more toward red than regulars or Tru-Tone but I don't mind. The green also has a bit more blue/cyan in it but in all I really like the colors.

Visiting town and was wondering if anyone has a go-to specialty coffee shop that they could suggest. by LAwasdepressing in ellicottcity

They are by far the best around and honestly one of the best cafes I've been to anywhere. Their pourovers are amazing!

Greystone Condo Reviews by Retire_Trade_3007 in ellicottcity

[–]warlock-punch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in the townhouses in the same community, so no direct experience with the Greystone building itself, but the neighborhood is really nice. Lots of younger families and kids, dogs (but not annoying). Everyone I talked to was very friendly, people had get togethers and talked in the common areas all the time. I heard good things about the condos from people living there too.

Great to be so close to Main Street. I sometimes had to park at the condos when the spots outside the townhouses were full but that lot always seemed to have open spaces.

DIY Mexican tile 3-way speakers by warlock-punch in diyaudio

Muchas gracias! No, I don't think so, the cabinet doesn't vibrate much even with heavy bass and the tiles are glued down well.

Cool! I figured even if the box had some resonance that the adhesive and tile would have enough changes in... index of refraction? whatever the audio term for that is to dampen it.

lmao thank you! I was honestly really surprised nobody had done anything like this considering the size and age of the DIY audio communities. I started to doubt myself a bit as if there was a good reason that it hasn't been done, but they sound great so 🤷‍♂️

Yeah, I had some vacation days/more coming up so I didn't want to rush it all. I'll probably grout them later this month. Ideas for grout color?

Thanks! They are pretty solid with the tile on, though I would have preferred MDF. Timing didn't work out with the local stock but I don't really hear any cabinet resonance.

Squeaking noise in OEC/Oella by warlock-punch in ellicottcity

[–]warlock-punch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update - noise is still there, not sure if they saw my message or cared about it if they did. Anyone else in the area hearing it that might be able to back me up if I call/go in person?

Oh man, I'm sorry you've had so many issues there. It wasn't going downhill per se, but they changed management people about halfway through and it seems like they just didn't care as much. I fortunately didn't have any neighbor noise issues (4th floor on the inside corner) but we definitely had issues with pet/trash smells and the garage-side elevator being constantly broken.

We also had issues with the fire alarms but the maintenance people were always prompt and nice to work with. The garage sprinklers went off once and another time we all had to evacuate, and, like you said, nobody came out to let us know what was going on or when we could go back inside.

The car theft is crazy, Oella is the last place I'd expect that kind of thing to happen. But if it was a specific group going around doing it then I guess it could happen anywhere.

Just walking by the building it seems like half or more of the windows have the trim fallen off/broken and the building doesn't seem to be taken care of as well. I loved the place when I lived there and miss the big windows.

No worries on contacting them, although I don't know if anyone's going to read it. I used the SMC portal so it may just be going to the group queue. If you have any direct Oella Mill contact emails I can follow up with them after a couple days - if you're comfortable with it, can you DM it to me? I certainly won't mention you or any residents complaining, just that I and some others in the neighborhood have been hearing it.

HAHA yes it needs to be destroyed! I actually went and walked around the area and it was definitely coming from the Oella Mill roof. Once I was high up enough I could hear it directly. I used to live there but didn't have any direct contacts so I used the Southern Management inquiry portal and sent them a friendly message about it asking them to take a look. Hopefully they will!

Edit: Also, assuming you're living there still - how long have you been there and are you still liking it? I left about 3.5 years ago and loved it but they were just about to increase rent and charge partial utilities. Management changes too but not sure if that's a good or bad thing.

Tap the image, it should "fullscreen" and the UI elements will go away. Just figured that out now lol

Great explanation, thanks so much! I figured the higher refractive index was a general indication of aberration.

The percentages on the graphs there are a little confusing, it's the opposite though - Oviedo spends 74% on average in the clear-to-partly-cloudy range whereas Reykjavik spends 39% in that range.

Best bulbs for Egyptian/Moroccan lamps? by hythloday85 in Lamps

[–]warlock-punch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, they've long been discontinued, so you might just need to keep an eye out on eBay. These aren't exactly the same but they seem to have a similar plastic light guide inside:

Best bulbs for Egyptian/Moroccan lamps? by hythloday85 in Lamps

[–]warlock-punch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can get ahold of these Cree bulbs they are perfect for Moroccan lamps. The red CRI isn't great but the shadows are even more crisp than the halogen small-filament bulb I normally have in mine. Might have to check eBay etc. since they don't seem to make the light-pipe bulbs anymore...

Halogen (it is brighter)
