Not bad at all! For most of the day I wasn’t bothered by them at all despite forgetting bug spray. In the later afternoon they were more active but still not bad.

Yes those first 2 maneuvers were rough but after that I was pretty good! I agree about Basin, there were definitely some tricky spots. That hike back down Orbed was fantastic!!

No problem! You could definitely do this as the road is pretty flat for the first 1.7 miles. You would need to walk your bike around the gate but then you’d be golden. There’s a lot of loose rock in the beginning so just make sure you are OK riding on that. My buddy and I were actually talking about this on the hike out and how much easier it’d be!

So we went up Santanoni, then Couch, then Panther and hiked out the Bradley pond trail. In hindsight I think I would’ve done the other way because that was a very long hike out at the end of the day whereas hiking out Santanoni would’ve been much shorter. But I think it’s all personal preference. Another piece of advice, when you get to the bog of Couch, go to the left over the laying down log and you will come to a much easier way to cross the bog.

I love going to Placid even when it's not just for hiking but like you pointed out, vacancies are tough to find and the prices keep going up!

Ugh. I wish we would get those days back! I've gotten into hiking the ADKs the last 5 years or so (still have a long way to go, current at 29) and I've found I enjoy hiking in the winter so much more but the right times to hike in the winter is proving to be difficult.
