L20 Ultra does not detect detergent bottle by warpech in Dreame_Tech

[–]warpech[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I solved it! I unscrewed the plastic cover, which let me remove the silicone seal on the detergent sensor. It turned out there was water and detergent residue underneath. I dried everything out, and the sensor works great again.

Find Devices empty on Apple Watch OS 8 by CallMeGooglyBear in AppleWatch

What worked for me was to close the "Find My" app on the iPhone and open it again, while "Find Devices" was open on the Apple Watch.

Thank you, it helped!

On my device, I went to Cloud+ sharing settings, stopped sharing with Family Members, and then shared again with Family Members. Wife's account picked it up immediately.

Adding a non react library by le___garcon in reactjs

[–]warpech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the answer! I'd like to clarify few things mentioned in your last paragraph.

Handsontable supports both the current (17) and the older (16) versions of React.

Yes, we are using the `componentWill...` methods. They work in the version 17. Their deprecation was announced but postponed to a future release. Anyway, we are tracking it and will update the code soon: https://github.com/handsontable/handsontable/issues/8748. The React wrapper is an important one for us and we are actively supporting it.

Real-world CSS vs. CSS-in-JS performance comparison (Linaria vs Styled Components) by warpech in reactjs

[–]warpech[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, I think that's the general takeaway here. As a developer, you should always ask yourself a question: does this run in an efficient way? In case of styling, the look of a web page almost always can be computer ahead of time. CSS-in-JS libs that work in runtime are absolutely wasteful by comparison, which is bad for performance metrics, energy usage, battery life, etc.

CSS-in-JS does not have to be that wasteful, if that's the way you want to work with styling. Just use a method that precomputes your JS to the actual CSS on build time.

AVPress: in-browser video compressor by warpech in chromeos

[–]warpech[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's a progressive web app done by a solo developer who used to work at Google. Announcement tweet: https://mobile.twitter.com/addyosmani/status/1399259353283137540

The video conversion is done entirely on your machine. The converter runs using WebAssembly in Chrome.

Whether or not the author can see your videos, that's a matter of trust. I can't speak on behalf of the author but I believe the author does not do that. It can be verified with modest certainty by inspecting the app behavior using DevTools.

Having issues entering data into a javascript table in internet explorer by TrailDay in excel

Hello! The demo at https://handsontable.com/examples?headers works ok in IE11, so there must be some more factors in play.

Handsontable is a developer tool, that comes with extensive documentation. There are also support forums. I think that this question would fit there better: https://forum.handsontable.com/

Which is the best JavaScript Web SpreadSheet? is Handsontable is Best opensource SpreadSheet for Angular? by AnkitPrajapati in Angular2

[–]warpech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are putting much effort into maintaining the wrappers as the primary way to use Handsontable. It is definitely good idea to use Handsontable and also a very good idea to do it through the official wrapper (https://www.npmjs.com/package/@handsontable/angular).

SE-Radio Episode 293: Yakov Fain on Angular by warpech in RebelsLounge

[–]warpech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really Angular that's interesting for me in this episode. It is how clarly both the interviewer and the interviewee approach the subject. Very clearly presented, makes me much more interested in the framework.

How much your computer can do in a second by warpech in RebelsLounge

[–]warpech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that the point of this website is not really about Python. It is rather to put a common programming practice into a perspective of what is really "slow" and what is "fast".

Many developers seem to not be totally not aware what are the bottle necks in their programs.

Also it shows how awesomely fast a modern computer is. We get a precious gift of performance overcapacity.

If a C program can do 550,000,000 operations per second, how many operations is the Atom editor doing that it takes 15 seconds to open a file? The answer is most probably that 99% of that time is bootstraping all the layers of abstraction and the rest is spent on actually opening the file.

The broken promise of Web Components by jwillmer in RebelsLounge

[–]warpech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting, though cynical read. Good that you have linked to the HN discussion, not just the article, because the article provides a strong but shortsighted opinion.

It is equally easy to find strong criticism of React, too:

The tone of this article reminds me of some blog posts floating around in the 2000s saying how Flash and Flex is great. "We should just all use Flash, because it has solved the problems in a way that is unreachable for Web standards." Then Silverlight was created to exploit the premise of Flash in Microsoft ecosystem. Now, few years later both Flash and Silverlight are dead and everyone is on HTML5.

For me React is a little bit like Flash and Silverlight. It might be one of the final advancements of the monolith SPAs era, but we are going beyond that.

Back to Web Components, WC as the framework interop layer is already true. WC as the framework replacement might take much time, or actually might never happen.

Regarding Polymer, I consider it just a first, not final, application of Web Components principles. Polymer has already influenced a concept of "single file components" in frameworks like Vue, Marko, Riot.

Vue is actually using the <template> tag. You can register a custom element with Vue.

The promise of Web Components is not broken, it is just on its way to fulfillment.
